Report: Aston Martin to put an end to combustion engines by 2025

After UK announced their intention to ban gasoline- and diesel-powered cars by 2040, Aston Martin seems to have felt the pressure; they are now joining the bandwagon imposed by the new regulation.

In a report by Financial Times via The Verge, the British marque’s CEO Andy Palmer said that they will have a full-hybrid lineup by 2025, to be led by the RapidE all-electric model that’s to be produced starting 2019.

As opposed to what the other car makers intend to do, joining forces with other brands to co-develop their electric lineup, Aston Martin is said to be developing their own. This is similar to what Subaru wants to do, outsourcing their batteries from either Samsung Electronics or Panasonic Corporation.

It’s important to note that Aston Martin isn’t the first to make a bold move when it comes to electrification. To recall, Volvo announced months ago that they will go full-electric in their lineup starting 2019 — a move that also coincides with UK’s and France’s direction in regulating cars.

The electrification of cars isn't that shocking for now as mainstream brands aren’t playing in the full-electric/full-hybrid lineup bandwagon yet. However, it’s just a matter of time until they do so, and we’re not really sure what to feel about it but one thing’s for sure, our planet will be the first to go all smiles when this happens.
