Subaru Ascent SUV

Last month, Subaru teased us a new SUV nameplate that is even more bigger than the discontinued Tribeca. After passing its concept phase, the Japanese automaker has introduced the 2019 Ascent 3-row SUV. All-new, this is the largest model from the Japanese automaker, with 7- and 8-seater configurations.

Basing on its appearance, the all-new Ascent sports Subaru's hexagonal grille and C-shape headlamps, which are said to be a reminiscent of the pistons found inside it's Boxer engine. Size, on the other hand, is what the Ascent is all about. It has a wheelbase measurement of 2890 mm, which makes the Ascent as one of the ideal family SUVs in the market, size-wise – talk about better cabin experience.

Talk about room, the Ascent has been blessed with enough of it. An exemplary 4,347 liters make up the passenger and cargo capacity. Entry and exit from the 3rd row is made easy with a 75-degree opening of the rear doors. Comfort, on the other hand, is ensured with a standard 3-zone automatic climate control. There are also reading lights on the 2nd row, as well as ambient footwell lighting throughout the cabin.

The Ascent is powered by Subaru's all-new 2.4-liter Boxer engine. This comes with a new version of high-torque Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system for improved traction superiority. The engine powers the vehicle with 260 hp and 375 Nm of torque, complete with Active Torque Vectoring as standard.

It doesn’t only rock in terms of power and cabin space, the Ascent also has a backbone of advanced safety technologies. It comes standard with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which includes Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure, and Sway Warning. Apart from these, the new EyeSight Assist Monitor (EAM).

In addition, the all-new Ascent features the brand’s latest StarLink multimedia system with multi-touch and high-resolution display. This technology can now remotely start the engine, anti-theft vehicle immobilizer, and child safety function. In terms of entertainment, the Ascent SUV comes standard with a 6.5-inch multimedia screen, while higher trim variants get 8-inch Multimedia Plus and 8-inch Multimedia Navigation systems.

The Ascent will be built in Subaru’s Indiana plant along with the Outback, Legacy, and Impreza. But if you’re wondering whether the Japanese brand’s most spacious model could make it in the Philippines, it should – considering the popularity of the segment in the country. However, we have to wait for further announcements from Subaru Philippines.
