Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) has announced its latest achievement of winning the top-rank “Five Star Award” at the 2014-2015 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) for its Subaru vehicles Outback, Legacy, Forester, and WRX.
Conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and the National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victim’s Aid (NASVA), this crash safety evaluation test showed these vehicles excelling in both pedestrian and passenger safety and crash prevention.
Aside from the brand’s Symmetrical AWD System, Subaru also was highlighted for its innovative “EyeSight” driver assist technology. This feature earned the highest regard under JNCAP’s Advanced Safety Vehicle Plus (ASV+) criteria.
The “EyeSight” system helps to detect and prevent imminent crash scenarios via essentially being the driver’s extra senses on the road. It is comprised of the Adaptive Cruise Control, the Lane Departure and Sway Warning, the Pre-Collision Throttle Management, and the Pre-Collision Braking.
Highlighting the latter 2 components, the Pre-Collision Throttle Management monitors the road ahead and automatically reduces the engine’s power upon detection of an incoming collision. This gives the driver enough time to react and swerve or step on the brakes. Should the driver be unable to react quickly, the Pre-Collision Braking kicks in and activates the brakes just in time to prevent an impact or at least reduce front collision damage.
This technology is standard on the latest Impreza, Legacy, Outback, Forester, and XV in Japan. But as of the moment, Subaru’s “EyeSight” is not yet available here in the Philippines.
On the bright side, this recent JNCAP achievement may convince Motor Image Pilipinas to finally bring in the technology here because as we all know, our roads have indeed become more unpredictable. It pays to drive safe and smart, but it also pays to be driving a vehicle which can be safer and smarter.
