Tesla Motors sure knows how to end the work week with a bang. During the unveiling event of Tesla Semi all-electric truck, the electric vehicle (EV) company surprises the attendees with a revelation and a bold claim — the 2nd-generation Roadster will be back and it’s bound to be the fastest production car ever made.
Yes. You read that right. The all-wheel drive Tesla Roadster is billed with numbers that can even make famous supercars like Lamborghini and Ferrari break a sweat. It looks like EVs are taking over the charts real soon.
The Tesla Roadster is rated to go from standstill to 97 km/h in just 1.9 seconds. Nice. That’s even faster than the time it takes for a traffic light to go from green to yellow to red. Although its top speed hasn’t been disclosed yet, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk said that it will be more than 402 km/h.
To give you an idea, Sweden’s Koenigsegg Agera RS, the current record-holder, is rated to have a top speed of 447 km/h. Let’s wait and see if Musk’s claim will still hold true once the final Roadster ratings come in.
Another solid figure that comes with the Roadster is its range. In a single charge, it can reach up to 998 km. This beats the S model, the other over-achiever in Tesla’s lineup, which has a 539-km vehicle range.
The Tesla Roadster design isn’t far from the reigning fast supercars — 2 doors, aerodynamic shape, and imposing fascia. What sets it apart, though, is its 4-passenger capacity, which you won’t see in 2-seater mid-engine supercars. Now, that’s more people to blow away.
In case you’re interested to get a hold of this electric supercar, you need to have 2 things. First, you need to have at least $250,000 (around P12.7-million). Next, you need to have patience (lots of it) as Tesla’s production is ironically not the fastest one in the planet.
