As harsh as it seems, many car related accidents are due to avoidable denominators such as replying to a text message, over-speeding, and drunk driving. So what do you do? It is important to understand some common causes of accidents and know the strategies to avoid them.
Distracted Driving
Whether you are taking a picture with your friends or you’re reaching a document inside your glove box, the reality remains – diverting your attention to something else can increase the chances of rear-ending the car in front of you or even hitting a pedestrian.
The simplest advice is to never take your eyes and mind off the road. If you need to reply to an important text message, wait until you arrive at your destination or stop at the nearest establishment. Just recently, the Senate approved the anti-distracted driving bill which deems the use of gadgets such as mobile phones as illegal.
Speeding
In our article, 5 kinds of drivers you'll meet on the road, we call speeders “Labam” – a suitable name because they are so in a hurry that they might be suffering from a bad case of LBM.
The worst case is labams are everywhere. They can be drivers of huge trucks, SUVs and sedans. There are even small car labams that zig-zag through the traffic or open roads.
How do you avoid labams? Well, there is nothing that you can do but let them pass through. Let them be the king of the road even for just a few minutes.
Drunk Driving
There’s nothing fun when driving while intoxicated. If you are going out with your friends, might as well leave your car at home. This way you’ll have more time to enjoy the company of your officemates and whatever activity you have planned.
Too drunk to even get an Uber or taxi? you can ask help from the first ever drunk driver service called Driver On Call.
So how does it work? When you are already speaking in English (which you normally wouldn’t in a normal day to day basis), hugging the table, or holding on for your dear life at the comfort room’s sink, dial the number 16-911. Tell the operator your exact location and Lifeline Rescue will dispatch a sober and licensed driver to your favorite bar. Unlike ride-sharing service providers, the personnel will drive your car.
