Tiu posts back-to-back wins at NDRC Southern Series

Jonathan Tiu makes it two-for-two, as the 2015 National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) concluded its first Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). But the JCT-Blanche racer did not have the most ideal start to the race weekend.

Prior to race day, Tiu just recovered from a minor illness. Also, his “Tiunami 1” Nissan GT-R encountered mechanical difficulties on its 4WD system, just as the race day began. To keep things going, the team had to reduce the car’s engine power and compensate with different traction control strategies.

In spite of that, Tiu still managed to clock 12.184 seconds and be at the top in the Quick 8’s. Coming in second fastest is RSL Motorsports’ Mark Manalo with a close 13.686 second run. Meanwhile, Tiu’s team mate Jonathan Young scored third place in his JCT-Blanche Honda Integra, following a withdrawal from Allan Ararao due to a mechanical issue on his W-Autosport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III.

In the Pro Class, the Manalo brothers Martin and Mark Joseph of the RSL Motorsports dashed to claim first and third places, while in second place was JCT-Blanche’s Jonathan Young.

The Expert Class saw Mark Malibiran crossing the line and completing the quarter mile run in just 13.645 seconds. Second place went to Chris Jayson Millet, while settled on third was Jeremie Cabreros.

It was a surprise win for Robert Palmero II in the Sportsman Class, after his rival Sherwin Jay Esguerra broke out of his dial-in time. Meanwhile, Arvin Jay Millet’s 13.790 second quarter mile run brought him to the third slot in the podium.

Down in the Hot Street Class, Cer Olliriz Alcala found himself winning the top spot, after rival Phoebo Ansel Perez ran the red light on their final run. The third spot in the podium went to Malvin Alcantara.

On February 14, 2015, the National Drag Racing Championship will return at the Clark International Speedway (CIS), where the 2015 Clark International Motor Show (CIMS) will also be held, making it an awesome motoring weekend to look forward to.

The 2015 National Drag Racing Championship is is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by M&H Tires, Sparco, GT Radial, and Aguila Auto Glass.
