Toyota received 8 awards for safety at the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia (ASEAN NCAP) Grand Prix 2016 held in Sepang, Malaysia.

Up for grabs during the event were best in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), and safety technology. These awards were given to the vehicle models that got the highest score in terms of safety performance during frontal and side crash tests.

It’s noteworthy that the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix 2016 is a regional award which means the models aren’t specific to the cars sold in the Philippines.

With this, the Toyota Agya (locally known as the Wigo) received AOP and COP for the Mini Car Category while the Sienta and Innova bagged the AOP and COP for MPVs, respectively. Moreover, the Toyota Rush and the Hilux were awarded COP for the SUV and Pickup Truck categories. Apart from that, the Hilux, Innova, and Sienta received AOP 5-star ratings.

Toyota was also presented with an award for its safety technology, the Blind Spot Monitor. This safety feature alerts the driver for oncoming vehicles that may not be within the reach of their vision.

In addition, the Toyota Corolla received the Rising Star Recognition for its improving safety standards as the Japanese marque added 7 airbags and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). These features are now available in all ASEAN countries.
