Toyota Motor Corporation announced that an all-new Coaster is set to be sold in Japan next year. This will be the 4th generation Coaster, which will replace the current model that has been reigning for more than 2 decades.
The current 3rd generation model of the Coaster was released back in 1993 – its lengthy reign has already made this all-new model long overdue. Moreover, its safety packages needs to be updated, particularly the airbags and body frame, which makes this a refreshing news for the fans and probable buyers of the minibus.
The all-new Coaster will have a bold new look, with bigger headlamps and widened windshield for better driving visibility. However, what’s best about the upcoming model is its essentially bigger interior space than its predecessor.
The new cabin design is 60 mm higher, while the side window is 50 mm taller, with a shoulder-to-window space increase of 40 mm. Moreover, the new square-ish design makes the interior roomier for a more comfortable ride for the passengers. There’s also a 60 mm increase in the distance between the racks and the roof for improved storage.
Lastly, to answer the call for an improved safety package, the all-new Coaster is enhanced with a ringed body frame and the first minibus in Japan to have Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags are also installed as standard for the driver and its front seat passenger.
The all-new coaster will be available in 2 body types: standard and long. The standard will have 25 seats, while the long one can either contain 24 or 29 individuals. A school bus option will also be available, which can seat 3 adults and up to 49 children.
The all-new Coaster will hit the Japanese showrooms starting January 23, 2017. However, we have yet to hear from Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation if and when will they bring it locally.
