Toyota has given the 86 a number of design tweaks to further enhance its driving dynamics. The Japanese automaker integrates the 86 with improved aerodynamics, revamped cockpit, and new intake and exhaust systems.
Starting with the exterior, Toyota fitted the 86 with nose fins, fog-lamp bezel fins, and canards to yield better aerodynamics. The 86 also comes with a lower nose and a horizontally expanded grille, which emphasizes a low, wide stance. The GT Limited model, on the other hand, is equipped with a wing-type rear spoiler that is said to give the 86 an outstanding aerodynamic and handling performance.
The rear of the 86 has LED combination lamps, dual exhaust pipes, and a large bumper. It is finished off with 17-inch aluminum wheels with machine-cut highlights and gun-metallic paint.
Inside, the Japanese automaker says the 86’s steering wheel features a diameter of 362 mm – the smallest ever used in a Toyota – and it has a cross-sectional shape that provides optimal grip. The vehicle also features a 4.2 TFT color multi-information display, which displays a variety of information such as G force, power/torque curves, and a stopwatch.
Performance-wise, the 86 gets an improved intake and exhaust manifolds (for manual transmission models), enhanced suspension, and increased body rigidity. The vehicle is powered by a 2.0L engine and it is mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The former delivers 207 hp and 212 Nm of torque while the latter puts out 200 hp and 205 Nm.
