After releasing a teaser sketch last month, Toyota recently announced that they will debut the new high-performance variant of the Yaris hatchback. This will be displayed alongside brand’s entry for the World Rally Championship (WRC)—the Yaris WRC—at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show this March 2017.
According to Toyota, the ‘Yaris GAZOO’ (the fan speculated name) will be based on the same 3-door body type found in its WRC version. In addition, several exterior design modifications such as a new front fascia, front and rear diffusers, side skirts, and a spoiler can now be seen giving it a sporty look.
On the other hand, not much has been said when it comes to the interior except that it will get a modernized cabin with many (unspecified) technical upgrades. Toyota said that all these will help improve overall comfort and handling of the car.
Perhaps the most awaited detail about the new Yaris is how many horses it packs under the hood. Toyota revealed in a press release that this hatchback will have a 210 hp engine, 10 more horses compared to the Japanese automaker’s other 2-door sports car – the current local spec Toyota 86.
Aside from that, no other technical details were given yet, such as the drivetrain, transmission, and the displacement of the engine. Good thing we only have to wait a couple of months more until we find out.
This year’s Geneva Motor Show will be held at Palexpo convention center in Switzerland from March 9 to 19, 2017.
