Excellent news for motorists who drive to Cavite from the metro on a regular basis; the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX) is set to open on the 24th of July 2015.
Built with the aim of increasing accessibility and convenience for travellers to and from Cavite, MCX, formerly the Daang Hari-SLEX link road, is a 4km-long toll road that is 4-lanes wide. Coming from the Cavite side, MCX starts at the junction of Daang Reyna and Daang Hari in Las Piñas and Bacoor, and from Cavite to SLEX through the Susana Heights Interchange in Muntinlupa, traversing the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Reservation. If you’re coming from Metro Manila, MCX is accessible via SLEX southbound by keeping right after the Shell station and exiting at the new off-ramp 800m before the old Susana Heights exit.
Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said that MCX will cut travel times by 45 minutes from Metro Manila to Cavite and vice versa. This means no more cutting through Alabang-Zapote road and Daang Hari/Daang Reyna to get to and from the south. As an added benefit, it is expected to decongest traffic in Cavite, Las Pinas, and Muntinlupa areas, which means easier, we hope, rush hour traffic. What we get is a better option for a hassle free drive, without the stress of tighter roads and more stops.
With a total cost of P2.0-billion, the MCX is the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) road project under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III. Together with the Ayala Corporation as the private proponent.
