Volkswagen’s Polo Sedan gets even more practical with an automatic option

Volkswagen’s subcompact, the Polo Sedan, was once purely a diesel affair with no automatic transmission option. But now, there’s a new variant, the Polo Sedan 1.6 MPI, that could be a more practical and easier to drive option.

Powered by a gasoline 1.6-liter engine, the Polo Sedan MPI Trendline has 105 hp and 153 Nm of torque on tap. That’s roughly 2 hp more and 97 Nm less than the diesel version. Although VW’s Turbo Diesel Injection (TDI) technology is one of the best in the business, some drivers might prefer the extra revs from a gasoline unit.

Another selling point is its 6-speed automatic transmission exclusive to this version, making the Polo even more accessible to those who prefer to rest their left leg.

Also new in the Polo MPI Trendline are the ISOFIX anchor points in the back, allowing the safe installation of child seats. The practicality continues with 60:40 split folding rear seats, providing more luggage space when needed.

Best part of all, it’s P18,000 cheaper than the diesel at P932,000.

But if you really like the Polo Sedan 1.6 TDI, it’s still available at P950,000 only with a 5-speed manual transmission. Then, there’s also the Polo Hatchback 1.6 MPI available for the same price.

Aimed to compete with the Honda City, Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, and the Ford Fiesta in terms of features and price point, the Polo Sedan aims to provide a more sophisticated, no-nonsense drive and feel, with German engineering.

With the launch of an automatic, gasoline variant, the Polo Notch is now more accessible and attractive in a highly-competitive subcompact market. Those shopping for a sub P1-million 5-seat family car will find much to love with the Polo Sedan.
