The BYD Seal 05 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid fastback sedan that brings BYD's Super DM-i efficiency technology to the midsize sedan segment in the Philippines. Distributed through AC Mobility, it sits as an accessible yet practical entry into BYD's growing local lineup, offering a combined EV-plus-extended range solution in a sleek, low-slung fastback body. It is offered in two variants: the Essential and the Dynamic, both sharing the same powertrain, battery, and fundamental body structure while differing in interior refinement, safety equipment, and a handful of convenience features.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Seal 05 DM-i measures 4,780 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, riding on a 2,718 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance at maximum load is 120 mm, and the minimum turning radius is 5.5 meters. Rear trunk capacity is 508 liters, and curb weight is 1,475 kg with a gross vehicle mass of 1,850 kg. Both variants seat five.
Both the Essential and Dynamic share an identical powertrain. The front-wheel drive system uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor producing 99 hp and 210 Nm of torque, working in concert with a BYD472QD petrol engine producing 74 kW and 126 Nm. The BYD Super DM-i hybrid system integrates these two power sources, and the combined setup achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds with a top speed of 180 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 3.8 liters per 100 km on the Essential. Four drive modes are available: ECO, Normal, Sport, and Snow.
The battery is a 7.42 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate unit offering an NEDC-rated pure electric range of 55 km. AC charging is via a Type 2 port at a maximum of 3.3 kW. Regenerative braking is standard, and a Charge by Appointment scheduling function is available on both variants.
Suspension uses MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam setup at the rear, with ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear. The Essential rolls on R16 Niobium microalloyed wheels, while the Dynamic uses R16 two-tone aluminum alloy wheels for a more premium visual presentation.
Technology Features
Both variants are equipped with a 10.1-inch non-rotating multimedia screen running BYD's DiLink ecosystem with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FM/AM radio, and a 4-speaker audio system. USB connectivity covers a front USB-A port and a rear combination of one USB-C and one USB-A port. Voice assistant, 4G connectivity, OTA updating, and BYD Cloud Service access are available through the DiLink system. The steering wheel integrates audio, phone, and adaptive cruise control functions on both variants.
Exterior
Both variants share a comprehensive LED lighting suite: automatic LED headlamps with manual height adjustment and Follow Me Home function, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights with sequential rear indicators, a rear fog light, an LED high-mount brake light, a charging port indicator light, and LED front and rear reading lights. All lighting is standard across both Essential and Dynamic.
The Essential carries manually folding exterior mirrors with electric adjustment, while the Dynamic upgrades to electric folding. Both feature a rear windscreen with electric heating and defrosting, intermittent boneless wipers, and upper and lower side window black trim strips. The Essential provides driver's auto windows with anti-trap and a remote control window lift, while the Dynamic extends auto window operation with anti-trap to all windows but does not include the remote window lift.
Interior
The Essential uses premium fabric seating, while the Dynamic upgrades to synthetic leather. Both variants offer 6-way manual driver seat adjustment, 4-way manual front passenger adjustment, and a 4:6 split-folding rear bench with height-adjustable rear head restraints. ISOFIX child seat anchorage points are standard on both.
The steering wheel on the Essential uses an integral skin foam finish, while the Dynamic wraps it in synthetic leather. Both feature multifunction steering wheel controls covering audio, phone, and ACC functions. The instrument cluster is an 8.8-inch full LCD combination display on both variants. Air conditioning is an automatic single-zone system with a rear air conditioning vent on both. A roof glasses box and passenger-side vanity mirror visor without lighting are standard throughout. The driver visor adds a vanity mirror on the Dynamic but not the Essential. The Dynamic also adds a glove box light and luggage compartment light that are absent on the Essential. NFC card key access is exclusive to the Dynamic, while both share standard keyless entry and start.
Safety
Front dual airbags are standard on both variants. The Dynamic adds side airbags for the driver and front passenger, which are absent on the Essential. The Dynamic also includes front warning force-limited seatbelts, again exclusive to this variant. Rear emergency locking seatbelts, a front seatbelt reminder, and a rear view camera are standard across both.
Active safety systems are identical across both variants and include Traction Control System, Vehicle Dynamic Control System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Parking Brake Deceleration Control, Comfort Braking Function, Brake Priority System, Hill Start Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, four rear parking sensors, mechanical child safety locks, and standard Cruise Control.
