BYD Philippines unveiled the Seal 5 DM-i to the Philippine market on November 21, 2024. Serving as the brand’s affordable sedan offering, BYD introduced two distinct variants of the Seal 5 DM-i, the Dynamic, and the Premium.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Built on BYD's Super DM-i platform, the Seal 5 DM-i benefits from an advanced architecture designed for hybrid and electric powertrains. This platform prioritizes lightweight construction and structural rigidity, enhancing the vehicle's agility, stability, and crashworthiness. The platform also supports BYD’s Blade Battery integration, ensuring compactness without compromising interior space. The Seal 5 DM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, creating an efficient and responsive series-hybrid system. BYD’s trademark Blade Battery powers the electric motor for an all-electric driving range of 50 to 115 km on the NEDC cycle. The system delivers a power output of 177 hp in the Dynamic variant and 194 hp in the Premium variant, offering an impressive claimed extended range of 1,175 km for the Dynamic and 1,240 km for the Premium. As for torque figures, the Dynamic variant puts out 316 Nm of torque while the Premium has 325 Nm of torque on tap. In addition, as the electric motors have the sole responsibility of powering the vehicle while the gasoline engine serves as a range extender, the Seal 5 DM-i enjoys near-instantaneous power delivery.

So glad I got this for my first car. Beginner friendly. Hi-tech. Fuel efficient. Sexy.
The vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature came to the rescue during the previous typhoon when we had no electricity. We were able to plug in our 12 cu. ft. inverter refrigerator for more than 12 hours, keeping our food safe. We were able to cook food, charge our gadgets, power on our WiFi router and light up the house.
