The GAC E8 HEV is GAC Philippines' mid-to-premium MPV offering, sitting above the GN6 in the brand's newly expanded three-tier MPV lineup. It is a full-size, seven-seat hybrid electric people mover that combines a 2.0-liter ATK engine with a 2-Speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and an integrated electric motor, delivering a combined system output of 182 PS and 300 Nm of torque. With a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 5.58 liters per 100 km and a 60-liter fuel tank, it offers a practical and efficient package for large families and corporate buyers alike. It is offered in two variants: the GL and the GX, with the GX adding a significantly more luxurious interior, a more advanced ADAS suite, and a host of comfort and convenience features exclusive to the top trim.
Launch
The GAC E8 HEV officially launched in the Philippines on July 29, 2026, alongside the All-New GN6 and the GN8 PHEV Executive. It is distributed by GAC International Philippines through a nationwide network of 30 dealerships. Two exterior colors are available: Crystal White and Elegant Black, with a single Black interior option.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The E8 HEV measures 4,920 mm in length, 1,928 mm in width, and 1,760 mm in height, riding on a long 2,930 mm wheelbase. Curb weight is 1,925 kg for the GL and 2,005 kg for the GX, reflecting the additional equipment on the top variant. Seating capacity is seven, including the driver. Trunk capacity spans from 345 liters with all seats occupied to a maximum of 1,917 liters with the rear rows stowed. A 60-liter fuel tank is fitted.
The powertrain is a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system using a 2.0ATK engine displacing 1,999 cc, producing 138 hp at 4,500 rpm, 103 kW at 6,000 rpm, and 180 Nm at 4,500 rpm, paired with a 2-Speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. The integrated electric motor adds 179 hp and 300 Nm, bringing the combined system output to 179 PS and 300 Nm total. Top speed is 160 km/h, and WLTC combined fuel consumption is rated at 5.58 liters per 100 km. The E8 HEV meets Euro IV emissions standards.
Drive is sent to the front wheels through the 2-Speed DHT. An Energy Recovery System is fitted on both variants for regenerative braking capability. Suspension is a McPherson independent front and torsion beam type non-independent rear, with disc brakes at both ends. Electric Power Steering and an Electronic Gear Shifter are standard throughout.
Technology Features
Both variants share a 14.6-inch multifunction touchscreen display and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster. Wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth phone connectivity are standard throughout. A front 12V power outlet and 7 USB ports (5 Type-A and 2 Type-C) are fitted on both. Speed-Sensitive Volume Control and sound effects adjustment with adjustable soundstage position and adaptive startup volume are standard across the lineup. Speaker count is 6 on the GL and 8 on the GX. The audio and video system supports both English and Spanish display.
For comfort and convenience, both variants include Remote Key, Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS), and a trunk light. The GX adds second-row LED reading projection lights and a glove compartment light not found on the GL.
Exterior
Both GL and GX variants share a full LED headlamp suite with height adjustment, a light-on reminder, and a delayed shutdown function. Automatic headlights with LED daytime running lights are standard, as are exterior mirrors with electric adjustment, electric folding, and heating. LED rear position lamps, LED rear turn signals, an LED high-mounted brake light, a rear reverse light, a rear fog light, and a license plate light complete the lighting package.
The GL rides on 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 225/55 tires, while the GX upgrades to 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 225/50 tires. Both variants receive frameless auto-sensing front windshield wipers and a frameless rear windshield wiper. The GL features an electric sunroof with anti-pinch protection, while the GX upgrades to dual sunroofs. The GL uses manual sliding doors, while the GX receives power sliding doors for both sides. The GX also adds a power tailgate, acoustic glass for the front door windows, acoustic laminated front windshield glass, and rear windshield glass with defrost and defog function — none of which are available on the GL.
Interior
The E8 HEV's cabin is built around a spacious single-floor living area of 520 square meters equivalent space, accessed through its sliding doors. PVC leather seating is standard on both variants, with a multifunction microfiber leather steering wheel and a manual anti-glare interior rearview mirror throughout. Dual-zone automatic air conditioning with rear single-cooling air conditioning is fitted on both variants, along with a PM2.5 air filter.
The driver's seat on both variants features a memory function with 6-way power adjustment and 4-way manual lumbar support. The front passenger seat adds a memory function with 4-way power adjustment on the GX, while the GL provides manual adjustment only. Front seat ventilation is standard on the GL and GX alike.
Second-row seat rails are 2-way adjustable with long rails on the GL, stepping up to 4-way adjustment with extra-long rails on the GX. The GX adds second-row seat ventilation with massage function, second-row seatback and cushion power adjustment, a second-row seat power leg rest, and a second-row seat one-touch zero-gravity function — all exclusive to the top variant. Second-row LED reading projection lights are also GX-only.
The third row offers a 40:60 split cushion and backrest on both variants, magic storage seats that fold fully flat, and a Tea Break mode. One-touch up/down power windows with anti-pinch are standard on all four doors, and remote-controlled all-door windows are fitted throughout. The GX adds a glove compartment light in addition to the trunk light that is standard on both variants.
Safety
Both variants share a comprehensive passive safety suite: dual front SRS airbags, front row dual side airbags, side curtain airbags, front single-stage pretensioner with load limiter seatbelts, second-row single-stage pretensioner with load limiter seatbelts, third-row left and right load-limiter seatbelts with a center 3-point seatbelt, a front-row seatbelt unfastened reminder, and child seat ISOFIX anchors with child safety door locks.
Active safety systems common to both variants include Electronic Parking Brake with Autohold, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Hill-Start Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS), 3 rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree HD panoramic parking camera.
The ADAS suite is where the two variants diverge most significantly. The GL provides a standard Cruise Control System as its sole driver assistance feature. The GX adds the full complement: Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Integrated Cruise Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, High Beam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Departure Warning — all exclusive to the top variant.
