Launch
The Geely EX5 EM-i was officially introduced in the Philippines in the first quarter of 2026 as part of the brand’s push toward electrified mobility. The EX5 EM-i came available in two variants: the EX5 EM-i, the Pro, which is priced at P1,288,000, and the Max, which is priced at P1,468,000.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The EX5 EM-i rides on a front-wheel-drive platform engineered to accommodate its hybrid system. Under the hood, it features a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a dedicated hybrid transmission (1DHT automatic). The electric motor produces up to 215 hp, while torque output is rated at 125 Nm.
Power is managed through an automatic transmission system designed to switch between electric and combustion power seamlessly. An 18.4 kWh battery pack supports the hybrid system, enabling an estimated total driving range of up to 1,000 km under optimal conditions. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link system at the rear, tuned for everyday comfort, while electronic power steering ensures light maneuverability in city driving.
Technology Features
The EX5 EM-i integrates hybrid-specific technologies that optimize efficiency and power delivery. The dedicated hybrid transmission works in tandem with the electric motor and gasoline engine to deliver smooth acceleration and seamless transitions between power sources.
Tech features include a heads-up display on select variants, a digital interface for monitoring vehicle and battery information, and multiple drive-related systems designed to maximize efficiency. With 172 mm of ground clearance, it remains suitable for Philippine road conditions, including uneven city streets and occasional provincial drives.
The design follows Geely’s contemporary styling language, featuring a clean front fascia, modern lighting elements, and aerodynamic body lines that subtly reflect its electrified nature. Depending on the variant, exterior conveniences such as a power liftgate are available for added practicality.
Interior
Inside, the EX5 EM-i focuses on comfort and usability. The spacious cabin benefits from its long wheelbase, offering generous legroom for both front and rear passengers. The layout is driver-oriented, with controls positioned for easy access and a clean dashboard design that reflects its modern hybrid identity.

Safety

Fuel prices are making manufacturers scramble to launch electrified vehicles as soon as possible. Geely is no exception, and it might just have a product that puts the brand back on the map. This is the Geely EX5 EM-i, a plug-in hybrid-electric vehicle with a total range of 1,000 kilometers on a single tank of gas and a full charge. Currently, the charger/s (wall and portable) have not yet arrived from the dealer (Q. Ave.). It's been over a month of just driving on purely Hybrid mode (I've only tried plugging it in once in a mall).
~38-41 is our usual distance covered per day, myself + 4 passengers, trunk filled with some bags; we average about ~15-18 km/L on pure Hybrid mode and High energy regen settings.
Comfort and space is great. For reference, our previous daily driver was a van. The EX5 EM-i may not look very spacious if you're judging it from the outside, but the inside is definitely very comfort oriented and roomy. You would think that the trunk would be the one to suffer because of the interior space allocated for the passengers, but such is not the case as the trunk has more than enough room to fit about 6-8 filled duffel bags; probably even more.
I don't really drive aggressively, so I cannot say much about how it handles if it were pushed harder. The most I've done with it so far are:
- accelerated to 90+ (not often)
- braked hard (not often)
- drove uphill at 60-70
- drove through curves at 40-60
All without issues.
Overall, the Geely EX5 EM-i is a great ride for urban, suburban, and out-of-town family trips.
