The Hongqi H5 is a compact executive sedan that has a clean design, comfort, and smart driving tech. It keeps the brand’s signature premium look while offering more accessible options for everyday use. With a choice of either a turbocharged 2.0-liter or a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, the H5 caters to both power-focused and fuel-saving needs. In the Philippines, it comes in multiple variants, from the top-spec Flagship to the more basic 1.5T, all riding on a shared platform with slight differences in features and performance.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Built on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout, the Hongqi H5 is powered by either a turbocharged 1.5-liter or a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine produces 156 hp and 258 Nm of torque, allowing the H5 to complete the zero to 100 sprint in 9.8 seconds up to a top speed of 210 km/h. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a seven-speed DCT.
On the other hand, the much more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine pumps out 221 hp and 340 Nm of torque. The added power drops the zero to 100 km/h time to just 7.8 seconds and bumps the top speed up to 230 km/h. For this powertrain, power is delivered to the front wheels via a traditional eight-speed automatic transmission. All variants ride on a 2,920 mm wheelbase and feature a McPherson front suspension and multi-link rear setup, providing a stable and comfortable ride.
Technology Features
All variants come with a digital display cluster, push start, and remote engine start. The infotainment system includes CarPlay and a choice between 8- or 10-speaker setups, depending on the variant. The top trims also feature a heads-up display (HUD), adaptive cruise control, and multiple drive modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Custom.
Exterior
The H5 sticks to Hongqi’s iconic style, with the front grille design based on traditional Chinese timekeeping symbols. All trims come with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and position lamps. Most variants feature automatic headlights and follow-me-home functions, with the Flagship trim getting extras like fog lamps, automatic leveling, and intelligent high-beam control. Ambient lighting and black roof paint are also available on higher trims.
Interior
Inside, the H5 balances comfort and style. The top trims include a large panoramic sunroof measuring 1010mm by 890mm, letting in plenty of light. Seating features vary by variant, with leather seats and 12-way power adjustment with memory, massage, and ventilation in higher trims. The 1.5T model uses imitation leather and has simpler seat adjustments. The dashboard is neat and tech-focused, supported by a leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB charging points, wireless phone charging, and smart keyless features.
Safety
The Hongqi H5 includes a full set of safety features across the range. This includes airbags for the front, side, and curtain areas, along with driver knee airbags and smart seatbelt systems with pre-tightening and load limiters. Standard tech includes ABS, traction control, ESP, EPB, and TPMS with display and warnings. The car also has features like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keep assist (LKA), blind spot detection (BSD), forward and rear collision warning, and fatigue monitoring. Parking sensors, reversing warnings, and a 120 km/h speed reminder help with daily driving and highway safety.
