The Kia Sportage Turbo Hybrid brings electrified efficiency to one of the most popular compact SUVs in the Philippine market. It pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery for a combined output of 232 ps and 367 Nm of torque — figures that place it firmly in performance SUV territory while delivering improved real-world fuel economy over a conventional petrol engine. It is offered in two variants: the EX Turbo Hybrid and the SX Turbo Hybrid, both sharing the same powertrain and body dimensions but differing meaningfully in driver assistance technology, audio equipment, and interior comfort features.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Sportage Turbo Hybrid measures 4,660 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,665 mm in height. Minimum ground clearance is 181 mm, and gross vehicle weight is 2,195 kg. Both variants are front-wheel drive.
The powertrain is a Gamma II 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI unit paired with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery, producing a combined 232 hp and 367 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a Smartstream 6-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid system operates as a parallel mild-hybrid setup, assisting the engine under acceleration and recovering energy under deceleration without requiring external charging.
Both variants ride on 18-inch alloy wheels, and a tire repair kit is provided as standard in place of a spare. A Steel 18-inch temporary tire is listed under safety equipment. Braking is handled by an Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Stability Control, Downhill Brake Control, and Hill-start Assist Control. An Electric Parking Brake is also fitted as standard.
Technology Features
Both variants are equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen audio system supporting AM/FM radio, MP3, and USB ports, with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth handsfree with voice control. The EX comes with 6 speakers, while the SX upgrades to an 8-speaker Harman/Kardon Premium sound system. A wireless charger with 4 USB ports is exclusive to the SX, while the EX does not include wireless charging.
Exterior
Both EX and SX variants share the same exterior lighting suite: LED front headlamps, LED front fog lamps, LED daytime running lights, and LED rear combination lamps, with a high-mounted stop lamp integrated into the rear spoiler. A roof rack and rear spoiler are standard across both variants. Side mirrors are electrically folding and controlled from inside.
Interior
Both variants use synthetic leather on the steering wheel with integrated audio remote controls and leather seat upholstery. The EX provides manual driver seat adjustment with height adjustment and manual front passenger adjustment with height adjustment. The SX upgrades the driver seat to power-adjustable operation while retaining manual adjustment with height adjustment for the front passenger. Both variants share a 60:40 full flat-folding and reclining second row, a dual-zone automatic air conditioning system, an illuminated push-button start, and an electro-chromic interior rearview mirror. Seat back pockets are provided for both the driver and the front passenger. Mood lighting is exclusive to the SX, while the EX does not include it.
Safety
Front, side, and curtain airbags are standard across both variants. Active safety systems common to both include Anti-lock Braking System, Electric Parking Brake, Electronic Stability Control, Downhill Brake Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Anti-theft System, ISOFIX Child Anchor for the second row, Rain Sensor, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
Both variants include standard Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist, Parking Distance Warning for both front and rear sensors, and a Rear View Monitor.
The SX adds a substantially more advanced KIA Drivewise ADAS suite. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist upgrades to FCA 1.5 on the SX. The SX also exclusively receives Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keep Assistance System, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist — none of which are available on the EX.
