The new Mazda2 sedan is the 4-door version of the hatchback of the same name. Its sleek KODO: Soul of Motion design coupled with superior performance and outstanding features has made the nameplate earn the Japan Car of the Year 2014 - 2015, an Honorable Mention in Germany's Red Dot Design Award, ANCAP 5 Star Safety Rating, and was declared by Car Awards Group Inc. (CAGI) as the Car of the Year Philippines for 2015 - 2016.
It's minimalist interior is driver centric, with the steering wheel having Audio controls, while a 7-inch touchscreen head unit with rotary commander are standard across the variant range. It also has paddle shifters, active driving display, heads up display for speedometer (R variant), and automatic climate control.
Under the hood is a 1.5L SKYACTIV-G 16-valve engine that produces 108 hp with 139 Nm of torque. It’s coupled to a SkyActiv-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode that can be turned on with a flick of a switch near the shift knob.
New with the Mazda2 is the G-Vectoring Control (GVC), which is part of the brand’s series of new-generation vehicle dynamics control technology. GVC uses the engine’s torque to distribute power among the wheels based on steering input. By optimizing the vehicle load among the wheels, it enhances the car’s handling and riding comfort. In short, more fun in driving with less to non-existent body roll.
Other standards include a push start/stop button, airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, Dynamic Stability Control, parking sensor, keyless system, and vehicle immobilizer.
