Mazda 6 Overview
The Mazda6 is the midsize sedan entry of Mazda Philippines. Pegged as an executive sedan that you’d want to drive, the Mazda6 has the appeal of a sensual vehicle and the driving traits of a powerful daily driver. It also embodies the brand’s KODO – Soul of Motion design language.
The Mazda6 initially came with just gasoline a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with SkyActiv-G technology. Later on, however, a turbo was added to bump up the power. It would later also receive the option of a diesel powerplant in the form of a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine with SkyActiv-D technology.
The exterior of the Mazda6 features a mesh design grille flanked by two LED adaptive headlights. These headlights are paired together with LED daytime running lights. For features, the Mazda6 has an i-ELOOP system as well as i-STOP. These systems helped the vehicle conserve fuel while in traffic. Other notable features include an 8-inch LCD monitor paired to an 11-speaker Bose sound system.
- Launch
-
The Mazda6 formally made its way into our market on April 5, 2013. At the time of launch, it was only available as a sedan and came with a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G engine that produces 182 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The engine only came with a 6-speed automatic paired to it.
It was later facelifted and new engine options were added. A diesel Mazda6 joined the lineup in 2016 and in 2019, a new turbocharged 2.5L gasoline engine was added to the lineup, replacing the naturally-aspirated mill of the same displacement.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
There are two engine options under the hood of the Mazda6. The first power plant is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine that comes with Mazda’s own SkyActiv-D technology. The other engine option is a 2.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with SkyActiv-G technology. The diesel powerplant makes 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque, while the 2.5-liter turbo gasoline engine makes 227 hp and 420 Nm of torque. Both engine options can be had with a Skyactiv-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Mazda6 Sedan currently utilizes Mazda’s GJ platform and rides on McPherson strut suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the back. All variants of the Mazda6 come with 19-inch wheels wrapped in 225/45 tires.

Pros & Cons
What you will like about the Mazda 6 is the fuel economy. Both engine choices will give you the best bang for the buck. The diesel power plant is also something to note as it can easily do 8.8 km/L in the city and 23 km/L on the highway. Whichever engine you choose from, you will be able to utilize its power. Whether it's the 2.2L diesel engine which gives you a wave of torque to ride on, or the smoothness of the gasoline variant.
What you might not like about the vehicle is the use of scratch-prone piano black plastics. The display for the 360-degree camera also needs improvement as the area of display is on the small side. The ride quality is also a bit on the firm side.
- Powerful Turbo Engine
- Handsome looks
- Interior fit and finish is sublime
- Slightly bumpy ride
- Not much amenities in the rear
