The all-new 2027 Mazda CX-5 is the third generation of one of the most recognizable compact crossovers in the Philippine market, and it arrives as the most significant evolution of the nameplate yet. For the first time, the CX-5 introduces hybrid technology through a new 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv-G engine paired with Mazda's hybrid system, producing 178 hp and 242 Nm of torque and mated to a recalibrated 6-speed automatic transmission. It is also the largest CX-5 ever built, growing 115 mm in length, 15 mm in width, and 30 mm in height over its predecessor, with a 115 mm wheelbase stretch that directly translates to best-in-class second-row legroom. It is the first Mazda model to adopt the brand's next-generation Mazda E/E Architecture+ (EEA+) electrical platform, enabling over-the-air updates, faster processing, and a reimagined human-machine interface centered on a new 15.6-inch touchscreen. It is offered in the single 2.5-liter AWD HEV Premium Plus variant.

Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The third-generation CX-5 is built on an evolved platform that retains Mazda's Jinba-Ittai philosophy of oneness between car and driver while substantially improving ride comfort and everyday usability. The suspension setup has been revised with softer springs, retuned dampers, and adjusted anti-roll bar sizing. Rebound damping has been increased at both axles, delivering better road-holding during faster cornering while more effectively absorbing vibrations from uneven surfaces at higher speeds. The steering has been refined for a lighter, more intuitive feel while maintaining accurate road feedback, and pedal response has been optimized for swifter, more predictable acceleration without delays.
Powering the CX-5 is a new 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv-G engine coupled with Mazda's hybrid system, producing 178 hp at 5,000 rpm and 242 Nm of torque. Compared to the outgoing engine, peak power arrives 1,000 rpm earlier and torque delivery below 4,500 rpm has been improved by up to 19 percent for a more assured, responsive feel at everyday speeds. The hybrid system supports smoother acceleration and deceleration, contributes to improved fuel efficiency, and makes engine restarts after stops quieter and more refined. The engine is mated to a recalibrated 6-speed automatic transmission with revised shift mapping and an updated hydraulic torque converter control, enabling smoother or crisper gear transitions depending on driving load and preference. The drivetrain is all-wheel drive as standard.
Sound-absorbing and insulating materials are placed at key structural points throughout the body, and the engine is equipped with a balancer shaft to minimize vibrations and low-frequency noise for a quieter cabin at all speeds.
Technology Features
The third-generation CX-5 is the first Mazda model to adopt the next-generation Mazda E/E Architecture+ (EEA+) platform, enabling faster processing, seamless over-the-air update capability, and a fundamentally reimagined human-machine interface. Key operations are consolidated into the steering wheel and center display for reduced complexity and safer interaction while driving.
The central 15.6-inch touchscreen is the hub for infotainment and connectivity. It is always on, features smartphone-like usability, and includes a customizable home screen with quick access to frequently used features. The system provides voice assistance for popular apps covering music, video streaming, and news. Climate control functions are integrated into the touchscreen, replacing previous physical controls. The 360-degree View Monitor is also accessible directly from the screen. An all-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster delivers customizable access to ADAS status, navigation, and media information. A head-up display projects key information onto the front windshield for eyes-forward driving. Capacitive steering wheel switches support Mi-Drive mode selection, media controls, camera activation, and touch-sensitive slide gestures for volume adjustment alongside traditional rocker press operation.
Audio is delivered by a Bose 12-speaker premium sound system with Perceptual Sound Rendering (PSR), specially tuned to the CX-5's cabin acoustics and engineered to deliver immersive, lifelike sound with speakers angled closer to ear level and optimized bass distribution throughout.
Exterior
The CX-5's design concept is called "Wearable Gear," reflecting a vehicle intended to fit naturally across a wide range of lifestyles — urban and refined, practical and ready for active use. The body proportions have been optimized for a more planted stance, and the raised nose gives drivers a more commanding view of the road while improving front-end visual presence. The front wing lines are now visible from the driver's seat, aiding spatial awareness in tight spaces. A Signature Wing element positioned between sharp double light units anchors the front fascia. Bumper openings have been widened to emphasize breadth and visual balance.
A distinctive trapezoidal motif defines the transition between the body and the lower cladding, drawing inspiration from kigumi, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique in which structures are precisely interlocked without nails — expressing structural integrity through design. Gloss black lower cladding adds a sporty dimension to the profile.
Standard across all variants are 19-inch alloy wheels with a black metallic finish. At the rear, new linear LED taillights keep the look clean, while bold "MAZDA" lettering replaces the traditional badge for greater visual impact. A hands-free power tailgate is standard. Six exterior colors are available: the new Navy Blue Mica (a first for the Mazda lineup), Soul Red Crystal, Rhodium White, Machine Gray, Jet Black, and Aero Gray.
Interior
The all-new CX-5's interior is guided by the Japanese principle of Ma — prioritizing space, balance, and harmony for an uncluttered, serene cabin. The extended wheelbase delivers best-in-class second-row legroom, while rear knee clearance has grown by 64 mm and headroom by 29 mm. The rear door opening is 70 mm wider, and a lower hip point with a wider scuff plate makes entry and exit more natural for all occupants. Cargo usability is improved by an approximately 45 mm increase in load floor depth, allowing bulky items such as luggage to stand upright.
The driver-oriented dashboard runs horizontally from door to door, enhancing the sense of width. A new integrated 15.6-inch center display takes center stage. The redesigned center console repositions the cupholders and wireless charger for improved daily usability, with longer and better-aligned armrests for a more relaxed posture. Front seats are finished in genuine sports tan leather, with powered adjustment and memory presets for the driver and ventilation as standard. Japanese Sen Wood trim brings a warm, genuine luxury feel to the cabin, while high-contact areas are finished in black to minimize visible wear over time. Ambient lighting on the front door trims is available in seven colors. A panoramic sunroof is standard. New indirect lighting enhances the sense of a private, high-quality space for rear passengers.

The Mazda CX-5 has achieved the highest level of safety recognition across three independent bodies: a five-star rating at both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, and Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) — the most demanding safety certification currently in use globally.
