Mazda CX-8 Overview
The Mazda CX-8 is a midsize crossover that slots in between the CX-5 and the CX-9 crossovers in the Mazda Philippines' range. This crossover is strikingly similar to the CX-9, with similar styling and fit and finish. Where the CX-8 differs is with regard to its interior. Gone is the 3-seater bench in favor of a two-seat middle row with a fixed center console. This effectively turns the CX-8 into a 6-seater instead of the traditional 7, perfect for those looking for more comfort and shoulder space inside the cabin's second row of seats. The car still retains its 50-50 split-fold third row which allows for more occupants or cargo depending on the configuration.
The CX-8 is equipped with Mazda's I-Activ Sense suite of safety features that include adaptive radar cruise control, Smart Brake Support, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention alert, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitors.
- Launch
-
The Mazda CX-8 was launched in the Philippines on November 28, 2019, along with the CX-30 compact crossover. It debuted with both all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive versions, and in 6-seat or 7-seat configuration.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The CX-8 shares a lot of similarities with its compact counterpart, the CX-5. MacPherson Struts populate the front suspension setup, while a multi-link rear suspension ensure smooth performance on all four corners of the monocoque chassis. The vehicle rolls on wheels that can go up to 19-inches in size from the factory, helping the car achieve a total of 200 mm of ground clearance.
The only engine option in the country is the brand's SkyActiv-G 2.5L naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline motor that produces 187 hp and 252 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The driven wheels of the CX-8 can depend on the variant, with low-end trims outputting to the front wheels, and high-end trims outputting to all four wheels.

-
The CX-8 comes with a wide array of tech and convenience features such as all-electronic interior adjustments. It also comes with an 8-0-inch infotainment system that's paired up with a 12-speaker Bose sound system. All CX-8 variants come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Aside from the mentioned tech features, the CX-8 in the Philippines comes with I-Activ Sense suite of safety features. These safety toys include an adaptive radar cruise control, Smart Brake Support, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention alert, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitors.
- Exterior
-
The CX-8 dons the same exterior design of the CX-9. In fact, the two are strikingly similar, sans the marginally smaller overall dimensions of the CX-8. However, the CX-9 and CX-8 have the same wheelbase length.
The Mazda CX-8 comes with full LED lighting, lead by its adaptive LED headlamps. It also comes with visually-appealing design for its 19-inch wheels.
- Interior
-
The Mazda CX-8 comes in two seating configurations that separate the all-wheel-drive variant from the front-wheel drive. The AWD Exclusive comes standard with 6-seating configuration, with the second row having two individual seats instead of the usual three. The front-wheel-drive version, on the other hand, has a standard bench for three passengers on the second row.
As for the upholstery, the CX-8 features Nappa leather on its interior. It comes in a Deep Red hue, which differentiates it from the rest of the Mazda range.
- Safety
-
The Mazda CX-8 comes with six airbags (Front Airbags for Driver and Passenger, Side Airbags for Driver and Passenger, and Curtain). Apart from that, it has ABS, stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree-view camera.
Following what the Mazda3 has started, the CX-8 also features Mazda's I-Activ Sense suite of safety features. These features include an adaptive radar cruise control, Smart Brake Support, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention alert, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and blind-spot monitors.
