The Radar RD6 EM-P is the plug-in hybrid variant of the RD6 midsize pickup. Unlike most pickups sold locally that rely on a traditional body-on-frame construction, the RD6 features a unibody chassis with independent suspension on all four corners, delivering a more refined, SUV-like ride while retaining the practicality and capability of a truck. Powering the EM-P is a plug-in hybrid system that pairs a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). This setup is complemented by dual electric motors—one on each axle—drawing energy from a 19.09 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
The RD6 EM-P serves as a versatile alternative to the fully electric RD6 BEV, catering to drivers who need extended range and the convenience of gasoline refueling. By combining internal combustion with electric propulsion, it offers the efficiency of an EV for daily use and the endurance of a hybrid for longer journeys.
The RD6 EM-P employs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with two electric motors—one on each axle—delivering a combined 456 hp and 659 Nm through a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The system supports on-demand AWD. A 19.09 kWh LFP battery allows an electric-only range of about 82 km, while the combined hybrid range exceeds 1,000 km. This setup enables the EM-P to function as a pure EV for city driving or as a hybrid for long-distance trips. Like the BEV, it rides on independent suspension and features electric power steering with ventilated disc brakes on all wheels. Payload capacity is around 800 kg.
Technology is the EM-P’s strong suit. Beyond its larger screens and Apple CarPlay, it offers a 360-degree (540°) camera system, intelligent parking assist, and drive modes for Eco, Comfort, Sport, Snow, and Off-Road. A smart key with remote start, OTA software update capability, and vehicle-to-load functionality are standard. Top trims also include voice control for climate and infotainment functions. The hybrid system automatically manages power flow for optimal efficiency, seamlessly switching between EV and hybrid drive.
Compared to the BEV, the plug-in hybrid RD6 is slightly larger at 5,277 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,880 mm tall. It gains a bolder fascia with a blacked-out grille section and LED projector headlights with auto on/off and adaptive high beams in higher trims. Roof rails, a roll bar, a power tailgate with step, and 19-inch alloys add functionality and flair. Ground clearance is 225 mm, with a similar 815 mm wading ability. LED taillights, automatic rain-sensing wipers, and bed-mounted power sockets underline its premium, tech-forward positioning.
The hybrid’s interior upgrades to a more luxurious, SUV-like environment. A 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen dominate the dashboard, offering wireless Apple CarPlay, voice control, and multiple user profiles. Dual-zone climate control with rear vents, wireless charging, and up to eight speakers are included in higher trims. Upholstery ranges from premium PVC to brown leather with ventilated front seats in the top Luxury grade. Convenience highlights include power-adjustable front seats (with driver memory in top spec), ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof that enhances cabin airiness. The EM-P’s overall design and fit-and-finish align it more with crossovers than traditional pickups.
The hybrid variant significantly upgrades safety with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). In addition to the BEV’s basic suite, it adds adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and intelligent parking assistance. Side and curtain airbags expand occupant protection, while the electronic stability system coordinates with AWD control to maintain traction across terrain types.
