Very popular during the late 80’s, more so in the entirety of the 90’s, the Vitara has become a mainstay in Suzuki Philippines’ stable, and have shared most of the Japanese automaker’s high reps on the off-roading industry, outshined only by its smaller big-little brother, the Jimny.
In 2014, the Vitara, now known as the Grand Vitara got a much-needed update. It now boasts automatic climate control and a 6.1-inch LCD touchscreen entertainment system that's navigation ready (for the special edition).
Hidden within its fresh new look is a 2.4L DOHC 16-Valve VVT engine, capable of churning out 168hp and 227nm/torque. Mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox, the Grand Vitara is able to achieve superb off-roading capabilities that seamlessly shift to on-road smoothness via its front McPherson Strut and Rear multi-link suspension.
Did you know that the Suzuki Grand Vitara that we see on the roads today was released a decade ago? After getting a few updates and facelifts along the way, we find out what it’s like to drive this affordable SUV.
