Toyota enters the battery electric crossover segment with the bZ4X. The Toyota bZ4X is a fully electric SUV designed to deliver a balance of efficiency, practicality, and advanced technology. Measuring 4,690 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, it offers a modern, aerodynamic profile while maintaining ample interior space. With a 2,850 mm wheelbase and 200 mm ground clearance, the bZ4X provides SUV-like versatility suitable for both urban and light off-road conditions. The vehicle seats five passengers comfortably and operates on an all-wheel-drive system for enhanced stability and traction.
Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) electric vehicle platform, the bZ4X combines strength and efficiency. It employs a MacPherson strut front suspension and a double wishbone rear suspension setup to provide a stable and comfortable ride.
Power is supplied by dual electric motors producing a total system output of 338 hp and 338 Nm of torque. The front motor generates 220 hp and 167 Nm, while the rear motor contributes 114 hp and 170 Nm, working together through the all-wheel-drive system.
The vehicle uses a lithium-ion battery with a 190 Ahr capacity, delivering consistent performance and durability. Multiple drive modes, including Eco and X-Mode, allow drivers to tailor performance to varying road conditions.
The bZ4X is equipped with a comprehensive suite of intelligent systems and connectivity features. Its large 14-inch display audio system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by Bluetooth, AM/FM, WiFi, and voice command functions. The seven-inch digital meter cluster provides real-time driving data, while dual front wireless chargers and USB Type-C ports (two front, two rear) ensure modern device compatibility and convenience.
The smart keyless entry, push-start ignition, and electronic parking brake with auto-hold improve everyday convenience. Additionally, the climate control system features auto dual-zone temperature regulation with S-Flow and nanoeX™ air purification technology for enhanced cabin comfort.
The bZ4X adopts a sleek, futuristic design with aerodynamic efficiency, a look shared with another Toyota product, the fifth-generation Prius. Its lighting package is fully LED, including headlamps, daytime running lamps, fog lamps, and rear combination lamps. The automatic headlamp leveling system ensures optimal visibility, while the LED clearance lamps enhance its distinctive look.
The 20-inch alloy wheels contribute to its confident stance. Convenience features include power-adjustable, autofolding, electrochromic mirrors with integrated camera, heater, reverse link, and memory functions. A panoramic moon roof enhances cabin ambience, and a power back door with a kick sensor adds hands-free practicality.
Inside, the bZ4X features a perforated leather interior emphasizing comfort and premium craftsmanship. The front seats are 8-way power-adjustable, with memory function for the driver. Heated and ventilated seats are available for both driver and passenger, while the rear seats feature a 60:40 split and heating capability.
Additional convenience comes from digital inside rearview mirrors, a tonneau cover, and auto up/down power windows with jam protection for all doors. The overall interior design focuses on ergonomics, technology integration, and quiet operation.
The Toyota bZ4X integrates the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense technologies, delivering a comprehensive approach to occupant and pedestrian protection. Its system includes the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Adaptive High Beam System (AHS), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
Supplementing these active safety systems are seven SRS airbags, including driver, driver knee, passenger, side, and curtain shield airbags, providing all-around cabin protection. Both front and rear seatbelts are equipped with three-point ELR pretensioners and force limiters for improved occupant restraint during sudden stops or collisions.
Stability and control are kept in check by a Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC) with Brake Assist, which helps the driver maintain control during emergency maneuvers. Additional support systems include Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Safe Exit Assist (SEA).
For convenience and added safety during parking, the bZ4X includes Auto-Park Assist, a Panoramic View Monitor, and a Clearance and Back Sonar system with six sensors each at the front and rear.
