Now on its eighth-generation model, the Toyota Camry is a highly-spacious midsize sedan offering equipped with the latest in creature comforts and technology. Thin chrome accents in front and at the rear give it the right amount of class, while the slight curves around the body maintain the business look of the sedan. The interior is splashed with leather for the top-range variant, while wooden veneer panels give a refreshing look from the usual same color/texture dash and door trims. Five people can enjoy the entertainment system via six speakers while chilling in the 2- or 3-zone automatic climate control cabin. Push start, six airbags, ABS with electronic brake assist, and rear parking sensors come as standard.
The Toyota Camry rolls out of Philippine showrooms with a sole engine, which is the 2.5-liter in-line four-cylinder engine. This mill can put out 181 horsepower and 231 Newton-meters of torque. This is an enhanced 2.5 engine compared to the one in the outgoing model, which can only generate 178 horsepower. It then comes with a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
The current generation Toyota Camry was launched on December 10, 2018. It serves as the Japanese automaker’s entry into the midsize sedan segment, available in two trims, the G and the V. The G trim serves as the entry-level trim while the V is the top-of-the-line trim level. The Camry is only available with one engine choice: a 4-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a 6-speed automatic.

The Toyota Camry with its 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine does well to get the car going. It doesn't have as much power on reserve compared to its older 3.5-liter V6 counterpart but the 4-cylinder engine is more than suited for the job. The engine does its job very well when it comes to delivering power when needed. The 6-speed transmission is no slouch either as it would downshift when requested. Putting the midsize sedan into Sport mode livens up the engine making it more responsive. Stopping the Camry is no problem thanks to its set of disc brakes.
The Toyota midsize sedan handles well in the corners and delivers a composed and reassuring ride. It does an excellent job of mitigating body roll in corners. Tight city maneuvers aren't a problem for the vehicle either as the steering wheel is nicely weighted and won't make you break out into a sweat when maneuvering.
The Toyota Camry comes with a heads-up-display and a choice of three driving modes for the V variant. The G variant does not come with these features. The top variant gets a 3-zone automatic climate control while the entry-level variant gets only 2-zone automatic climate control. Both variants come with Display Audio with CD/DVD/MP3/FLAC that also supports AUX, USB, Bluetooth and K2 Technology for high-resolution audio quality. The infotainment system also comes with Toyota’s T-link system for mirroring smartphones. The vehicle also comes with 2-phones handsfree ready settings for the infotainment system and a 5-phone memory function for streaming music. Sound is sent through a 6-speaker sound system.
For the exterior, the Toyota Camry comes with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a headlamp leveling device. The Toyota midsize sedan features a sleek design with a wide lower grille in dark gray. The upper grilles come in body color and are topped off at the center by a Toyota logo. At the rear of the vehicle are its predominantly clear tail lights save for the inner portions of the housing that come in red. The rear also features a dual exhaust tailpipe that comes with a diffuser. The Camry can be had with either 18 or 17-inch wheels depending on the variant. It rides on 235/45R18 tires or 215/55R17 tires.
The Interior of the Camry comes in a black theme that spills over to the seats of the vehicle. Seating material can be had in two choices. For the top tier variant, it comes in smooth leather, while the entry-level get fabric. The V variant gets an 8-way power-adjustable with memory function and lumbar support driver’s seat. The passenger, on the other hand, comes with an 8-way power-adjustable seat with a back switch. The G variant only gets manually adjustable seating. The rear seats for the V variant are power operated and get a recline function. The G variant, on the other hand, only comes with a fixed rear seat.
For safety, the Toyota Camry comes with child lock protection, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, emergency brake signal, and a suite of airbags. These airbags are for the front driver and passenger, side airbags, curtain shield, and knee airbags for the driver’s side. The midsize sedan also features clearance and back sonar sensors to aid with parking.
The current-generation Toyota Camry has a 5-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP.
