The Toyota GR Corolla transforms the familiar Corolla hatchback into a purpose-built performance car engineered by Toyota Gazoo Racing. Launch
Toyota Motor Philippines officially launched the GR Corolla on December 23, 2025. At launch, the GR Corolla was available in two variants: a six-speed manual variant and an automatic with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Colors available for the GR Corolla consist of Super White II, Emotional Red 2, Black, and Precious Metal.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
At the heart of the GR Corolla is Toyota’s 1.6-liter G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 296 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic, both paired with Toyota’s GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system. This performance-focused drivetrain allows torque distribution between the front and rear wheels for improved traction and cornering stability.
The chassis features a MacPherson strut front suspension and a double wishbone rear setup, both tuned for spirited driving. Ventilated disc brakes with fixed calipers provide strong stopping power, while a limited-slip differential enhances grip under aggressive driving conditions. Drive modes, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Gravel, and Track, allow the GR Corolla to adapt to varying road and driving conditions.
Technology Features
Despite its performance-first character, the GR Corolla comes equipped with modern convenience and connectivity features. A 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster provides customizable readouts, including performance-oriented displays. The seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth, USB connectivity, and voice command functionality. Dual-zone automatic climate control and a wireless charging pad add everyday usability, while steering wheel-mounted controls allow drivers to manage audio, phone, and driver-assist functions without taking their hands off the wheel.
Exterior
The GR Corolla’s exterior design reflects its motorsport inspiration without becoming overly flamboyant. It features a wide and aggressive stance, accentuated by flared fenders, a rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires. Bi-LED headlights with LED daytime running lights provide a sharp, modern look while improving visibility. Functional aerodynamic elements contribute to stability at speed, reinforcing the car’s performance intent rather than serving purely cosmetic purposes.
Interior
Inside, the GR Corolla maintains a driver-centric layout with a clear emphasis on control and support. Sport seats upholstered in synthetic leather and suede provide firm bolstering for enthusiastic driving. The steering wheel and controls are positioned for easy reach, reinforcing the car’s focused character. Rear seats retain a 60:40 split-fold function, allowing the GR Corolla to remain practical for daily use or weekend trips despite its performance orientation.
Safety
Safety is handled by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features. These include a Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Dynamic Radar, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam. Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert enhances awareness in traffic, while multiple airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, and an Emergency Brake Signal provide added layers of protection.
