The Toyota GR Yaris is a homologation spec rally car that has been made available in the Philippines. As a rally car for the road, the hot hatchback comes with a powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline motor that sends power to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. The GR Yaris also marks the second Gazoo Racing vehicle to enter the country aside from the GR Supra.
The GR Yaris was confirmed for the Philippine market on March 30, 2021, with no launch date announced for the hot hatchback. Toyota Motor Philippines would then later opened reservations for the hot hatchback on April 20, 2021, with only select dealerships carrying the model. The Japanese automaker would then officially launch the vehicle on July 17, 2021.
The Toyota GR Yaris utilizes the Japanese brand's Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) has also further enhanced the chassis giving it a new set of suspension components to allow the vehicle to handle the rigors of rally racing. As a homologation vehicle, it also comes with other components such as a limited-slip differential to improve its handling characteristics. The GR Yaris is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine that develops 272hp and 360 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Stopping power, on the other hand, comes from 14-inch disc brakes all around. Its already sporty nature is further enhanced by GR tuned circuit suspension, which comes in the form of MacPherson struts with stabilizers at the front and a double-wishbone with stabilizers set up at the rear. The hot hatchback also rides on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped 225/40 series tires.
