MG is a British automotive manufacturer founded in 1924 by Cecil Kimber. Kimber named the company as tribute to William Morris, who was his employer at Morris Garages.
The first line of MGs were built using Morris’ Cowley chassis, until such time in 1924 when he finally built his first true MG, the 14/28 Super Sports. The introduction of the Super Sports also premiered the octagonal logo we know today.
Throughout history, the brand MG traded hands several times and at one point in history, was owned by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1952, British Leyland (BL) in 1975, British Aerospace (BAe) in 1988, BMW in 1994, then to the MG Rover Group in 2000. During that time, they produced several iconic cars such as the MGA and MGB of the ‘50s/’60s, and the brand’s 1-millionth unit produced, the MGB Roadster in 1975.
Most recently, the rights to the MG brand was purchased by the Nanjing Automobile from China, creating a new company MG Motor, which is headquartered in Birmingham, UK. It designs, develops, and assembles models under the MG marque.
In the Philippines, MG debuted in 2015 under MG Philippines, who is owned by the same group responsible for bringing in another iconic British automaker, Morgan Motor Company here in the country. Their initial fleet consists of the MG 3, MG 5, and MG 350.
They are located at G/F, 241 Midway Court Bldg., EDSA Greenhills, Mandaluyong, Philippines.
