The BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is a full-size luxury MPV that blends spacious family practicality with cutting-edge plug-in hybrid efficiency. It represents BYD’s vision of sustainable luxury, combining the quiet and smooth drive of an electric vehicle with the flexibility of a hybrid system. The eMAX 9 DM-i is offered in two variants, Advanced and Premium, both powered by BYD’s proprietary DM-i technology and Blade Battery. By combining cutting-edge hybrid technology with thoughtful design, the eMAX 9 DM-i delivers an effortless driving experience that blends power, efficiency, and sophistication.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The eMAX 9 DM-i is built on a unibody platform designed for stability and ride comfort. The front suspension uses a MacPherson strut system, while the rear features a four-link independent layout. The Advanced variant is fitted with variable frequency dampers, while the Premium gains the DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension for enhanced comfort and control.
Power comes from a hybrid-special 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 150 hp and 220 Nm of torque. It is paired with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that delivers 268 hp and 315 Nm. Together they provide smooth acceleration, reaching zero to 100 km/h in about 8.4 seconds. The car uses BYD’s Blade Battery, available in two capacities: 20.4 kWh for the Advanced model and 36.6 kWh for the Premium.
Charging is managed through a Type 2 AC port rated at 7 kW and a CCS DC fast-charging port capable of 41 kW for the Advanced and 73 kW for the Premium. A VTOL discharge function allows the car to power external devices. The vehicle also features regenerative braking, intelligent hybrid energy distribution, and multiple drive modes including Sport, Standard, Economy, and Snow.
The eMAX 9 DM-i measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,045 mm, a ground clearance of 157 mm, and a minimum turning radius of 5.7 meters.
Technology Features
The eMAX 9 DM-i incorporates BYD’s intelligent hybrid management system with battery temperature control, energy recovery, and connected features. It supports 4G connectivity, cloud services, and over-the-air software updates. The infotainment system features a 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and voice control. A 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel complements the setup.
The system includes a karaoke function, vehicle alerting sounds for low-speed operation, and multiple connectivity options such as Bluetooth, NFC, and digital keys. Both variants come with an intelligent distribution system that prioritizes electric driving for efficiency and comfort.
Exterior
The BYD eMAX 9 DM-i combines elegant proportions with a modern and confident stance. LED lighting is used throughout, including dynamic turn signals, daytime running lights, and a high-mounted brake lamp. The headlights feature automatic activation, follow-me-home functionality, and rain-sensing wipers. Both trims come with an electric sunroof, dual power sliding doors, and an electric tailgate with memory and remote operation.
The Premium variant adds AR projection sensors for hands-free door and tailgate opening, dynamic welcome headlights, and Michelin silent tires. The eMAX 9 rides on 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Exterior colors include Arctic White, Deep Purple, Cosmos Black, and Atlantis Grey.
Interior
Inside the eMAX 9 DM-i, luxury meets practicality in a 2+2+3 seating layout. The Advanced variant features premium leather upholstery, while the Premium offers Nappa leather. The second-row captain’s chairs in the Premium variant include electric adjustment, ventilation, massage, adjustable side wings, and extendable leg rests. A built-in car refrigerator enhances convenience for long trips.
Both variants feature power-adjustable front seats, front seat ventilation, and a digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The Advanced variant includes monochrome ambient lighting, while the Premium has 128-color rhythmic gradient lighting. Other amenities include a 50 W wireless charging pad for mobile phones, six USB ports, a secondary cup holder console, and touch-sensitive LED interior lighting. The Advanced version has an 8-speaker audio system, while the Premium has 12 speakers.
Climate control is managed by an automatic dual-zone air conditioning system with independent controls for the middle row. Negative ion air purification is available in the Premium trim for improved cabin air quality.
Safety
The MPV is equipped with 8 SRS airbags that include front, side, curtain, and middle-row units. The car’s Advanced Driver Assist System features automatic emergency braking, forward and rear collision warning, cross-traffic alert and braking, lane departure assist, blind spot detection, door open warning, and traffic sign recognition.
The Premium variant adds adaptive and intelligent cruise control, emergency lane keeping assist, curve speed warning, and a 3D panoramic imaging system supported by five millimeter-wave radars. Standard safety features across both variants include traction control, electronic stability control, ABS, hill-hold and descent control, tire pressure monitoring, brake override system, and roll movement intervention.
The structure incorporates advanced materials, an electronic parking brake, and coordinated regenerative braking for balanced performance and safety.
