The GWM Cannon is a pickup truck model produced by the Chinese automotive manufacturer, Great Wall Motors. First introduced in 2019, GWM’s pickup has gained a following for its robust design, load-bearing capabilities, and modern features.
Known in its home country of China as the Great Wall Pao, the Cannon is built on GWM’s P71 platform. In the Philippines, the GWM Cannon is powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel CRDi engine that produces 184 hp and 480 Nm of torque, allowing the Cannon to tow up to 3.5 tons without breaking a sweat. This diesel mill is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Available in either 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain configurations and equipped with a wide array of tech features, the GWM Cannon positions itself as a value-packed contender in the mid-size pickup segment.
Launch
The GWM Cannon pickup truck made its debut in the Philippines alongside the Haval H6 and Jolion crossovers on April 11, 2023. GWM’s pickup truck presented itself as a feature-packed truck that provided a ton of value for your money. At launch, the Cannon is available in six variants: the Pilot 4x2 and 4x4 variants, and the Lux and SLux variants, which also have 4x2 and 4x4 versions respectively. For those looking for affordable options, the Cannon Pilot 4x2 arrived with a launch price tag of P998,000, while at the other end of the price spectrum is the SLux 4x4 with the initial launch price set at P1,498,000.
In 2025, GWM updated the Cannon with a new engine, transmission, and equipment. Introduced to the market in April 2025, two models were launched, both equipped with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine and a nine-speed automatic gearbox. This new engine produces 184 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Variants featuring this engine are available in Lux and SLux trims, priced at P1,348,000 and P1,498,000, respectively.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Cannon rides on GWM’s P71 platform and is powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine that produces 184 hp and 480 Nm of torque. The sole transmission option is a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
Supporting the vehicle is a double wishbone suspension at the front and a rigid axle with leaf springs at the rear. Lux and SLux variants are equipped with ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear. This setup is paired with an electric parking brake and an auto hold feature.
Models equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain come with Intelligent 4WD, Torque on Demand, and a mechanical locking differential, significantly enhancing the Cannon’s off-road capability.

GWM offers a suite of tech features in the Cannon. The Pilot variant is equipped with a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a six-speaker audio setup, leather seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic air-conditioning, and an automatic anti-glare rearview mirror.
The Lux and SLux variants take it a step further, featuring variant-exclusive additions such as rear AC vents, hydraulic-assisted tailgates with retractable step boards, cruise control, off-road information display, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, wireless Android audio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Also included are 50W wireless charging, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera view, and remote start with speed sensing technology.
4x4 models are also equipped with multiple drive modes and locking differentials.
Exterior
The Cannon showcases a bold and rugged appearance, typical of a pickup truck. It features a muscular front grille with prominent GWM badging, sleek headlights, and a sturdy bumper. The overall design emphasizes strength and durability, with angular lines and a raised stance. The Pilot variant of the Cannon is more understated, featuring minimal cladding and body-colored fender flares.
The Lux and SLux variants, on the other hand, build on the Cannon’s rugged looks with additional styling enhancements. These variants feature flared wheel arches and a chrome-finished front grille. Adding to their commanding presence are 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Interior
Inside, the Cannon offers a reasonably spacious cabin with a modern layout and various amenities. It provides seating for up to five occupants, with leather-upholstered seats and generous legroom. The dashboard is simple yet functional, housing the touchscreen infotainment system, climate controls, and other convenience features. Depending on the variant, the Cannon is available with either a manual air-conditioning system or an automatic system equipped with rear passenger vents.
Safety
The Cannon doesn't skimp on safety and performance features. It includes ventilated disc brakes, roll-over activated side curtain airbags, and a rear collision warning system. Automatic high beams enhance night-time visibility, while the emergency brake alarm system and traffic jam assist boost driver awareness and safety.
All variants come with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist, hill descent control, secondary collision mitigation, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. SLux variants add an advanced suite of driver assist systems: adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, Intelligent Dodge, lane-keeping assist, over-speed alarm, and Intelligent Cruise Assistance.

I ve been using Japanese vehicles since i learned to drive and u i was surprised the vehivlcle that i bought satisfied me a lot i did not expect that GWM CANNON pick up truck have the quality as the same wirh Japanese pick up trucks .I notice the is bigger than any other pick up trucks with a superb safety features eventhough i have a mid variant model and if you are in the streets people notice its not a common japanese pick up truck ciz its really huge and cannot bullied by other vehicles.With 7 yrs warrantee and 10yrs in transmission with very affordable price no regrets are all keep up the good work GWM
