Getting car insurance has gotten easier over the years thanks to the internet. This has made the process become a more streamlined process with the customer only needing to do a few things to get their insurance policy. That said, getting a quote for it has gotten easier as well, while the exact process of getting a quote varies slightly from company to company, the general process remains the same. With that in mind, we have created a quick guide for you to follow in order to help you get a car insurance quote online.
Read through the website
Right off the bat, some websites will already flood you with what the insurance company can offer you. These will also include basic educational tips on what auto insurance is and what they can offer you in terms of policies and discounts. Make sure to read through these as they will help you out. Pay special attention to the discount options as well as these could help you lower the cost of your insurance.
Vehicle information
When getting an insurance quote, an insurance website will typically ask you about your vehicle. This will give the insurance company a general idea of what they are working with and what they can offer you. While some websites will ask you for more specific information about your car such as its year, make, model, and sometimes the variant. Make sure that you fill out what is asked of you from the website. Do not worry as they will not ask about anything personal about you or your vehicle just information that is publically available. In the event that you don’t know about your vehicle’s year, make, and model, you can consult with your car’s certificate of registration (CR) to help you find the information you need.
The website may also ask you for your contact information in order to send you the quotation. Make sure to fill this out so that they can send you the quote. Take note of other information that you might need to fill out on the website especially if your vehicle is still insured with another company.
Compare the policy quotations
After you have been given your free insurance policy quotation make sure to compare and contrast it with other websites. This will ensure that you can get the best deal possible for your specific needs and wants for your car’s insurance. Some websites will even give you a breakdown of your policy with the option to adjust it with other add-ons that you might like. Make sure to take note of these as they can cause your yearly dues for your new policy to increase.
Once you have selected the policy for you, then you can apply for it. Depending on the company and their website they will ask you to upload key documents for this process. These include a government-issued ID along with your vehicle’s updated OR/CR. If you do not have a digitally scanned version of these documents make sure to take clear pictures of them. This is to make sure that the insurance company can properly read the information you give them. Some websites will ask you to take photos of your vehicle with specific angles, with that said, make sure that these images are taken during the daytime and in a well-lit place. This is done so that the insurance company can get a proper look at your vehicle before they hand you your final policy.
