Subaru has overcome the challenge of implementing its EyeSight driver assist system in manual transmission-equipped vehicles, and it will be available in models with a clutch starting in the 2024 model year. EyeSight is a pioneering driver assist system developed by Subaru, the first in the world to utilize stereo camera technology. By relying on this technology, it can detect not only cars but also pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists in the vehicle's path. EyeSight offers several features, including pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, and more.
The 2024 Subaru BRZ will be the first manual transmission-equipped Subaru model to feature EyeSight. This version of the system is based on the existing EyeSight system, which means that the BRZ MT will now possess a range of safety features such as pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, rear sonar warning. By integrating the EyeSight system into the manual transmission models, Subaru aims to maintain its excellent performance in collision avoidance and damage mitigation while also reducing the driver's workload. If we were to guess the next model to come equipped with Subaru EyeSight, it would likely be the Subaru WRX since it is the next vehicle in the Subaru lineup marketed with a stick shift.
Since its introduction in 2008, Subaru has achieved significant global sales, with over 5.5 million units of Subaru vehicles equipped with the EyeSight driver assist system sold worldwide. This highlights the popularity and trust that customers have placed in Subaru's safety technology. With the inclusion of EyeSight in manual transmission-equipped models, Subaru expands its reach to a wider range of drivers who prefer manual transmissions, ensuring that they can benefit from advanced safety features.
The introduction of EyeSight in manual transmission-equipped vehicles demonstrates Subaru's commitment to enhancing safety across its vehicle lineup. By continuously innovating and integrating advanced driver assist systems, Subaru strives to provide a safer driving experience for its customers while maintaining the performance and reliability that the brand is known for.
