The BYD Tang DM-i is a midsize plug-in hybrid crossover built with BYD’s Super DM-i system. It combines a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender engine. The electric motor produces 197 hp and 315 Nm of torque, while the range extender works as a generator to either charge the battery or provide additional energy to the motor when needed.
This crossover has a curb weight of 2,130 kg, a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, and a ground clearance of 160 mm. It can seat up to seven passengers and has a cargo space of 235 liters with all seats up, 940 liters with the third row folded, and 1,655 liters with both rear rows down.
Launch
The BYD Tang DM-i was officially launched in the Philippine market on September 17, 2025. It joins BYD’s lineup of electrified vehicles. The Tang DM-i is offered in a single variant locally, carrying the advanced Super DM-i system and high-capacity interior configuration as part of its standard feature set.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Tang DM-i rides on a unibody chassis configured for front-wheel drive. It measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height. The turning circle is 11.8 m, helping maneuverability in tight spaces despite the size.
Its powertrain is anchored by the permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 197 hp and 315 Nm, paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that serves as a high-efficiency generator. The system is managed by BYD’s Super DM-i platform, designed to balance fuel savings and performance
Technology Features
The BYD Tang DM-i runs on the Super DM-i hybrid platform, which switches between pure electric drive, hybrid drive, and generator charging depending on driving conditions, speed, and battery status. It comes with three drive modes called Economy, Normal, and Sport that adjust efficiency and performance based on the driver’s needs.
Onboard technology includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and Bluetooth, supported by over-the-air updating and BYD Cloud Service. Audio is provided by a Dynaudio 12 speaker system. For safety and convenience, advanced driver assistance features are standard, such as adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera with see-through mode, lane departure assistance, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
Exterior
The BYD Tang DM-i measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and a ground clearance of 160 mm. It is equipped with LED headlamps that have automatic on and off, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillamps. The front and rear turn signals are sequential, and the high-mount brake lamp and rear fog lamps are also LED. Side turn lamps are integrated into the mirrors, which are power-adjustable, power-folding, and heated, with puddle lamps included. The vehicle also comes with a power tailgate and roof rails for added practicality.
Interior
The cabin seats seven passengers with leather upholstery. The driver’s seat is power eight-way adjustable, heated, and ventilated, while the front passenger seat is power four-way adjustable. The second row folds in a 60:40 split, and the third row folds flat. Front seats are heated and ventilated.
Interior features include a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and Bluetooth. The sound system is a Dynaudio 12-speaker setup. Other highlights include dual-zone auto climate control with rear vents, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, OTA updates, and BYD Cloud Service.
Safety
Standard safety includes front, side, and curtain airbags, three-point seatbelts for all rows, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Advanced driver-assist features are also equipped: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, lane departure assistance, blind-spot monitoring, intelligent high beams, door open warning, and a 360-degree camera with see-through mode
