Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) will be launching its all-new Accord this coming September 24, 2019. There are no official specs yet but we speculate that the all-new Accord will be coming into the country with the 1.5-liter turbo engine that comes in the RS variant of Civic but with a different tune.
If the Philippine-spec Accord is the same as our neighboring Thailand models, then the midsize sedan could come in three variants. These three possible variants could be the 1.5 Turbo EL which has a slightly different tune to the Civic RS engine, and the Hybrid variants of the Accord.
The 1.5 Turbo EL in Thailand produces 190 hp and 243 Nm of torque. This is paired with a CVT transmission and comes with a 56-liter fuel tank. Honda claims that this new engine is actually stronger and more economical than the outgoing 2.4-liter mill that came in the Accord before.
The Hybrid variant comes in two trim levels. The first is the Hybrid CVT, this variant features a 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle engine that produces 145 hp and 175 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to two electric motors that together have a power output of 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque. When these two work together, they produce a total of 215 horsepower. Torque figures of the combined power plants are still not yet confirmed but expect it to be in the 30 Nm of torque. The hybrid engine is paired to an E-CVT that has been updated for a third generation. The fuel tank of the Hybrid Accord has been reduced from 56-liters down to 48.5 thanks to the hybrid system.
For the top-spec variant in the Thailand market, it comes with the same engine and transmission as the middle variant but comes with extra technology. The top-of-the-line variant features Honda’s TECH system. This system features front assist via four parking sensors located throughout the exterior of the vehicle. It also features park assist that also utilizes the four sensors. It also has a cross-traffic warning system. The parking system will also let the vehicle automatically park in a parallel parking space as well as in perpendicular parking.
