In this short video by Porsche, they answer one of the most popular questions on the internet regarding their brand: why is the 911 called… well, the 911?

Interestingly, the short clip didn’t really answer how they came up with the concept for its original name – the 901. Maybe it’s a story for another time.

First built in 1963, the 911 was unveiled at the International Automotive Show (IAA) the same year. Today, it serves as the center point for all Porsche vehicles and is considered the brand’s most iconic nameplate in their lineup.
