The auction which will take place at the Barrett-Jackson auction house during its Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida on April 12 and will offer bidders the opportunity to own the most track capable Corvette in the brand’s history. Last year, the GM Foundation performed a similar act on behalf of Karmanos Cancer Institute by auctioning a 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible for $1 million.
Proceeds from the auction will support the renovation of the Institute’s infusion center, which provides a more comfortable and soothing setting for patients to receive chemotherapy treatments.
The Corvette Z06 is billed as having unprecedented levels of aerodynamic downforce and a minimum 625 horsepower from an all-new supercharged 6.2 Liter V8 engine. This technology, combined with it’s eight-speed automatic transmission and lightweight construction help make the Z06 become surprisingly fuel efficient.
In an official press release, GM President Dan Amman said that “Chevrolet’s donation of the first 2015 Corvette Z06 produced is yet another way that we are showing our continued support of the Karmanos Cancer Institute,” he further added that “The funds raised from the auction will help further the exceptional patient care that Karmanos is known for in our community and across the country.”
With an additional $400,000 grant being provided by the General Motors Foundation to help support the Institute’s cancer research, the total support for the Institute by the GM Foundation in the last 17 years tallies to nearly $7.3 million.
“When it comes to corporate citizenship and philanthropy, General Motors and its employees set the example” said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO, Karmanos Cancer Institute. “Their generosity goes a long way toward improving the lives of cancer patients and supporting cancer research. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to GM, the GM Foundation, Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson for their ongoing commitment to help end this disease.”
Chevrolet and the GM Foundation continue to expand their philanthropy worldwide. In the last twelve months (to name a few) they have stood by the American Cancer Society by pledging support of $1 Million, supported the Red Cross in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) have helped support a number of Detroit-based charities, given $200,000 to Safe Kids Worldwide and pledged $2.9 million to Higher Education in the U.S.
When it comes to philanthropy, you can’t help but to love that Chevy.
