BYD Philippines is slashing the cash price of its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the BYD Tang, by P700,000 until supplies last. The crossover’s price before the deduction stood at a tall P3,288,000, but the brand is giving you its 7-seater PHEV to you at a price of only P2,588,000, a relative bargain for a vehicle that boasts a system that is capable of outputting up to 505 hp.
The Tang is a midsize crossover that seats up to 7 individuals and – yes – has 505 hp and 720 Nm of torque from its HEV system. Figures like that were once only reserved for supercars, but BYD lets you have all that juice in the body of a practical car. It’s not the fastest vehicle out there, but it gets up to speed rather quickly. The 0-100 km/h time is rated to be at 4.9 seconds.
The gasoline motor under the hood of the BYD Tang is a 2.0L turbocharged unit that comes mated to a dual-clutch transmission with a total of 6 gears. BYD also touts that its hybrid system is capable of returning outstanding fuel economy, with a manufacturer-given rating of 50 km/L.
In addition, the Tang has a pure EV mode that can power the crossover for up to 80 km without assistance from the gasoline engine. All four wheels of this PHEV are turned, effectively making it four-wheel-drive. In order to charge the BYD Tang, all you need to do is plug in the proprietary charger into any 220V wall socket, then plug in the car. It’s that simple. After a while, you’re good to go.
On top of that, you get a leather-clad interior in a light brown color with cream and black accents sprinkled throughout. The infotainment system is just as large as the car coming in at 12.1 inches. The head unit also outputs to 9-speakers making for a premium listening experience.
The P700,000 discount is available until supplies last. P2,588,000 is a bargain of a price for a 505-hp PHEV as it stands, let alone a 7-seater crossover. It’s worth a look and maybe even a test drive or a purchase.
