Huawei, a prominent name often associated with mobile devices, has evolved into a multifaceted tech powerhouse in China. Renowned for an expansive range of products that spans from fiber optic cables to mobile phones and consumer electronics like laptops, Huawei caters to a diverse array of consumers. However, the company has recently ventured into a novel territory, one that marks a departure from its established domain. Huawei is embarking on a journey into the automobile industry, collaborating with the automotive conglomerate Chery to pioneer its first car.
Although the vehicle is yet to enter production, a glimpse of the prototype was unveiled by Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei's automotive solutions division. This "pure electric coupe," as Yu referred to it, was showcased on Weibo, China's largest social media platform. The vehicle's anticipated public release is slated for the third quarter of 2023.
Contrary to expectations, the car will not sport the Huawei logo. Instead, the collaboration between Huawei and Chery has given birth to a new brand called Luxeed. The maiden vehicle under this brand, codenamed EH3, features a sleek and aerodynamic design, evidently shaped through extensive wind tunnel testing. The emphasis is on fluid, wind-defying surfaces, devoid of sharp lines or abrupt angles.
A notable feature is a pod situated at the roof's edge, potentially housing LiDAR cameras and sensors. With a complement of 11 HD cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars dispersed throughout the car's structure, the vehicle boasts an advanced autonomous driving system. Huawei asserts that this system, named Huawei ADS 2.0, can facilitate autonomous driving for distances of up to 200 kilometers without requiring human intervention.
Underneath its innovative exterior, the Luxeed EH3 draws upon the Chery E0X electric vehicle architecture. While specific power and torque specifications remain undisclosed, the vehicle will feature an 800-volt charging system capable of delivering a range of up to 700 kilometers.
Huawei's foray into the world of automobiles has led to a unique collaboration with Chery, resulting in the Luxeed brand. It further solidifies Huawei's expansion beyond its traditional tech roots.
