Isuzu, Suzuki tops 2016 DOE Euro 4 Fuel Economy Run

Out of 70 vehicles with varying body types and engine sizes, Isuzu and Suzuki aced the 2016 Department of Energy (DOE) Euro 4 Fuel Economy Run for the diesel and gasoline category, respectively.  

The participants went through a preset 280-km route from Petron Clark station in Angeles, Pampanga through Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), then back. Although the run was mostly through expressways, it was controlled to approximate standard driving conditions.

Based from the DOE’s data, we picked out the vehicles that registered notable fuel economy rating.

The diesel category was led by the Isuzu D-MAX LS 4x2 with a fuel economy rating of 38.46 km/l. It was followed by the Hyundai Accent Sedan with 29.41 km/l. The European cars got the consequent spots – Peugeot 301 with 29.35 km/l, Audi A3 2.0 TDI with 28.46 km/l, and the Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDI with 28.08 km/l.

The Suzuki Celerio CVT led the cars that used gasoline with a fuel economy rating of 29.14 km/l. Followed by the Honda Jazz 1.5 VX CVT with 28.60 km/l, then by another Suzuki with new Ciaz GL MT with 27.94 km/l. The all-new Hyundai Elantra sits in 4th with 27.83 km/l and the Suzuki Celerio MT completed the top 5 with 27.70 km/l.

Of note, the fuel eco run was organized by the DOE, with Petron Corporation as their partner and fuel provider. All participants used Petron XCS (95-RON) and Petron Turbo Diesel – both Euro 4 fuels. They wish to promote reasonable use of use of energy, and to guide consumers on the importance of fuel economy as part of their decision in buying a new car.

They would also like to promote the Euro 4 fuels, which has already been mandated January of this year. Euro 4 fuels contain less sulfur and benzene, therefore they produce less pollutants and safer to our environment.

In line with this, DOE issued Fuel Economy Rating certificates to the following car brands that participated in the event.

(Volkswagen), Bayan Automotive Industries Corporation (BAIC), Berjaya Auto Philippines (Mazda), British United Automobiles Inc. (MINI), Columbian Autocar Corporation (Kia), Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (Peugeot), Ford Group Philippines, Foton Motor Philippines Inc., Honda Cars Philippines Inc., Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, Motor Image Pilipinas Inc. (Subaru), Nissan Philippines Inc., PGA Cars Inc. (Audi and Porsche), Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. (Tata Motors), Suzuki Philippines Inc., The Covenant Car Company Inc. (Chevrolet), Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, and Volvo Philippines.
