
Mazda unveiled its much awaited entry to the 2016 New York Auto Show. Named as the Mazda MX-5 RF, this car features an aerodynamic fastback design while still adhering to its 2-seater open-top nature.
The MX-5 RF sports a fluidic silhouette and a roofline that courses down smoothly to the rear end. What’s different though is that Mazda has incorporated a power hardtop into its styling (hence the RF which means Retractable Fastback). This design not only makes the car look cooler, this also retains the spirited driving experience the roadster kind is known for.
The top can be triggered on and off with a push of a button at speeds of up 10 km/h. As the rear window rolls down, the roof stows itself away at the back. What’s surprising is that despite the presence of the roof, Mazda claims that the trunk space is still the same as the roadster version.
Lastly according to Mazda, the MX-5 RF will run with their latest SkyActiv G gasoline engine that comes in either 1.5L or 2.0L. The rest of the car will be revealed as the 2016 New York Auto Show opens this March 25, 2016. We do hope that Mazda Philippines would bring it here in due time.
