Mitsubishi Motors has recently announced that it will be bringing back its storied Ralliart brand. The performance and motorsports division of the Japanese automaker ceased its operations back in 2010 and is now coming back with two new models planned for release in 2023. The news of the Ralliart brand making a comeback was confirmed through the Mitsubishi FY2020 financial report that was released on May 11, 2021, along with the automaker’s plans for the ASEAN region
Further details of the revival of the Ralliart brand are still scarce, the financial report further revealed that the Mitsubishi Strada will be one of the first few models that will receive the performance treatment. However, it was not mentioned if the new model will be based on the current generation of the pickup truck available on sale today or if it will be utilized on an all-new model. Further, other reports have stated that the Mitsubishi Xpander will also be receiving the Ralliart treatment, but no details have been released as to what the performance brand will do the improve the MPV.
While the Japanese brand has encountered a few hardships over the past few years, the announcement of the Ralliart brand could be the much-needed spark needed to revitalize the automaker. More performance-oriented vehicles in Mitsubishi’s lineup could prove to be useful especially if the automaker wants to bounce back from its earlier setbacks.
Another thing to note is that the ASEAN region might be the first market to get a taste of the Ralliart treatment as the FY2020 report stated that the automaker will be focusing its efforts in the area. The report also states that Mitsubishi will not be introducing new models to the European market but could still do so through its partnership with Renault. With not too many details available, for now, all we can do is wait until the Japanese automaker releases more details about its high-performance and motorsports-oriented sub-brand.
