The Mazda CX-5 remains a prominent model in the Japanese automaker’s current lineup. It was actually one of the first vehicles to uplift the Mazda brand given its Kodo-infused aesthetics and SkyActiv technology. From then until now, the compact crossover remained in the mainstream boundary though it became exceptional given its upmarket feel. Now, the CX-5’s premium approach will soon be better justified, as this crossover will soon transition to a fully-fledged luxury car once its all-new model is finally released.
According to some reports, the all-new Mazda CX-5 will feature a fastback-like look. Furthermore, it was also learned from a ‘Best Car’ that the all-new model will be comparable to the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. Given that the current model is not as big and luxurious as some of the models mentioned, the Mazda CX-5 might receive some substantial upgrades in order to keep up with its future competitors. Also, the same source mentioned that the range could include a new four-door fastback that will possibly be called the CX-50.
One notable change for the upcoming model would have to be the will ride on a new rear-wheel-drive platform that will be shared with the upcoming Mazda6 as well. Despite having a new drivetrain option, it will also be made available with all-wheel-drive.
As for the powerplant, the upcoming crossover shall feature a bigger and more powerful 6-cylinder engine. This Mazda will also get the SkyActiv-X technology along with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a turbo-diesel variant which should be available in select markets.
Of course, let’s not forget the importance of aesthetics. Mazda will perhaps treat this crossover with a more upscale look in order to keep up with its German rivals. The all-new Mazda CX-5 is expected to make its debut in 2023.
