Volkswagen has provided a sneak peek of an upcoming entry-level electric SUV slated for a 2026 launch. This new SUV will be based on the ID.2all concept, an electric hatchback concept that Volkswagen displayed back in March. This new crossover is set to be the replacement of the gasoline-powered T-Cross.
Though the teaser image doesn’t reveal much, we can tell that the new crossover exhibits a sleek design featuring angular lines, an upright glasshouse, slender headlights, spacious wheel arches, brief overhangs, and a distinct rear pillar characterized by three prominent feature lines. If you put it side by side with the ID.2 all concept, you can see that the overall body shape also mimics the hatchback, the only minute difference being the more prominent lip on the front bumper as well as the slightly longer rear.
The upcoming five-seat model is set to be built on Volkswagen's MEB Entry electric-car platform, serving as the foundation for not only the ID.2 hatchback but also for various electric models within the city-sized Volkswagen Group lineup, including the Cupra Raval, an electric hatchback built by SEAT, a Spanish car manufacturer.
Since the teaser is only an image, information regarding the crossover is scarce at the moment. A car from Volkswagen we do have information about is the ID.2all concept. The hatchback is powered by a front-mounted motor that generates 220 hp, sufficient for an estimated zero to 100 km/h time of approximately seven seconds, according to the company. Two battery pack options will be available: 38 kWh and 56 kWh though Volkswagen has not stated the type of batteries it will be using. Additionally, the DC charging capability with a peak capacity of 125 kW is expected to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 20 minutes.
Since VW’s electric crossover is largely based on the hatchback concept we can expect these once VW releases additional information.
