DPWH opens 3.2 km eastbound lanes of Laguna Lake Highway

The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) has accomplished the 3.2 km portion of the Laguna Lake Highway. This portion of the said highway is expected to cut the 1-hour travel time from Taytay, Rizal to Bicutan, Taguig by 30 minutes.

It was 5 months ago when the department started with the Phase 1 of the Laguna Lake Project, also known as Circumferential Road 6 (C6), costing P512 million. The 3.2 km additional eastbound lanes that connects Napindan to M.L. Quezon Avenue in Taguig City is part of Phase 1 and 2.

“This newly opened highway is part of a road network that we are building to ease congestion in this particular area and provide a barrier that would prevent backflow of water coming from the Laguna de Bay going to industrial and residential areas in Metro Manila.”

The secretary also added that structures dedicated to pedestrian are integrated in the road projects and are part of the half a million budget. This is to give way for bikers and pedestrian access, apart from motor vehicles. Also part of the project are widening of 2 bridges, improvements of dilapidated parts of the road, construction of 2-meter wide planting strips, 3-meter bike lane, and a 1.5-meter sidewalk along C6.

The Laguna Lake Highway was opened in year 2000 for light vehicles, which serves as an alternative route for motorists who are avoiding EDSA and C5 traffic. It spans along the peripheral areas of the Laguna de Bay that links the towns of Rizal to the eastern corridor of Metro Manila.
