The Mazda2 V+, CX-9, and MX-5 RF were recognized as the best in their respective segments at the 2017 Car of the Year – Philippines (COTY-P). The Japanese brand’s trio got the highest mark in 3 of the 23 categories based on real-world qualitative and quantitative scoring.
The Mazda2 is no stranger to COTY-P as it won the prestigious award in 2015. This year, however, its V+ Hatchback variant that’s now equipped with G-Vectoring Control (GVC) technology was named the Best Subcompact Car.
For the Best Large Crossover All-Wheel-Drive category, the award giving body bestowed the accolade to the all-new CX-9. Launched last April 2017, this 7-seater crossover features Mazda’s latest rendition of their design language called KODO: Soul of Motion. It is powered by a potent 2.5L SkyActiv-G turbocharged engine and a premium interior highlighted by a Bose 12-speaker system.
Lastly, the MX-5 RF received the Best Sports Car recognition. Its automatic retractable hard top paired with its sexy design and impressive performance helped it bag the said award.
COTY-P is organized by the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), which is composed of motoring journalists from various Philippine print, television, radio, and online channels. In this year’s Test Fest, 41 cars and trucks were evaluated over 2 days.
Mazda vehicles are designed to give consumers the best choice in quality, performance and safety while providing superior ownership value and this year’s results once again show that we have been consistent in delivering this promise.
