Hybrids and Electric vehicles are slowly gaining popularity the world over. With a shift to cleaner and more sustainable sources of mobility, it's not hard to see why car companies are making more eco-friendly vehicles. Over in Malaysia one such example has been spotted months before its scheduled May 2020 release date. The vehicle in question is an all-electric version of the MG ZS.
The electrified version of the British heritage crossover ditches its combustion engine and instead is powered by an electric motor. The electric power plant is said to have an output of 148hp and 350 Nm of torque. With instant torque on demand, this will make the MG ZS quite spritely due to its high torque figure. Powering the electric motor is a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which is located under the vehicle’s floor. The battery gives the MG ZS a quoted operating range of about 335km on a full charge.
In order to give the battery pack its juice the MG ZS EV has two charging ports available. The first charging port lets you slowly give the battery its power via a Home charging setup. This charges up the batteries to full in 6.5 hours at an AC rate of 6.6 kW. The other option is a DC charger that is claimed to be able to charge the vehicle from 0 to 80 percent in just 30mins. Both the home and DC charging ports are located at the front of the vehicle just under the movable front MG emblem.
Not much else is known about the ZS EV but judging from its specifications from its Thailand version it is said to come with halogen projectors, power seats, keyless entry, push to start, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a PM 2.5 air filter, and I-SMART voice control. With interesting specifications, it's only a matter of time until the MG ZS EV enters the Philippine automotive market.
