Engine is the heart of every vehicle; it's what makes everything work. With this, automakers are continuously putting efforts to produce a powerful engine while reducing the carbon dioxide emission, and one of them is Ford.
To catch up with tight competition in the market, Ford engineers considered three key technologies to save fuel and maximize power. First is the direct fuel injection, which improved fuel efficiency, enhanced power delivery. Variable camshaft timing, on the other hand, increased engine torque and fuel economy, while turbocharging gave extra power and torque demand in the vehicle. All these factors combined made EcoBoost the most advanced engine technology Ford has ever created. This recent innovation has improved the fuel efficiency by 20% without sacrificing its performance ability.
Given these impressive points, the American automaker further elaborates the reasons why your next car should be fitted with the EcoBoost engine. Here’s what they said:
1. It is surprisingly small and light.
Believe it or not, the EcoBoost 1.0L cylinder block can fit within the perimeter size of an A4 paper sheet. Yes, it is that compact. This powertrain is made up of compacted graphite iron and aluminum to reduce weight without sacrificing its strength.
2. It is compact yet powerful.
This engine can actually churn out a maximum output of 125 hp and 170 Nm of torque, proving that size doesn’t always equate to power. Despite its small size, the 1.0L EcoBoost engine can even rival a traditional 1.6L petrol engine.
3. It is fuel-efficient.
The EcoBoost engine marks 20% improvement in fuel economy so drivers would not need to gas up as often as the standard petrol engines. This technology also comes with a more environmentally-considerate platform as it also lessens up to 15% carbon dioxide emission.
4. It is recognized internationally.
This innovative engine technology has gained numerous acknowledgements internationally. The EcoBoost engine has been voted for six consecutive years as the 2017 International Engine of the Year – Best Engine Under 1.0-liter. As of now, it has already gathered 10 International Engine of the Year awards, including overall winner three times, and crowned as the “Best Newcomer” award.
“The EcoBoost is definitely a game-changer in the global automotive industry, setting the benchmark for compact yet powerful and fuel efficient engines. We look forward to pushing the boundaries of powertrain engineering even further and seeing more of our vehicles running on this innovative engine technology.”
