Autonomous driving has been one of the notable advancements of the automotive industry. This has been a trend aiming to aid drivers into a safe driving experience, but...what about sports cars?
Sports cars are meant to be driven. Meaning, it’s the essence of owning a sports car that negates the idea of a self-driving feature.
In a report, however, published by Autocar, it looks like one sports car-maker is somewhat looking at the small keyhole into the said technology. According to the report, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume initially admitted that the company has no plans of introducing a fully autonomous car.
Moreover, he strengthen his statement by saying, “When you buy a Porsche, you will drive it yourself, full stop."
Yet on contrary, Blume further noted that elements of the said self-driving technology may be a possibility in the future. He claimed that the company don't see a fully self-driving car, but is thinking about combining autonomous features into the real Porsche genes. This, he believes, will maintain the essence of having a real Porsche.
“For example, when you are going to work in the morning and you are in a traffic jam, there is a possibility to read the newspaper. When you go to a restaurant and you cannot find somewhere to park, the car will find somewhere to park itself and then fetch you after you leave the restaurant.", Blume continues.
Meanwhile, the Porsche CEO said that the company is currently embracing electric technology by developing an electric car dubbed as Mission-E. The said model is a battery powered sports car which is scheduled to launch in 2020.
But not long after, he cut off the excitement by confirming that there are no plans for an electric Porsche 911.
