Barely 5 years after the last all-new model came out, Honda has now unveiled the global-spec 10th generation Civic. And it has new goodies inside and out that caught our attention.
First, Honda claims that the all-new Civic is their “sportiest Civic ever.” Their bold statement seems to hold true given the car’s redesigned exterior and aggressively styled front end. Aside from the brand’s distinctive wing-shaped grille, the car’s got bigger front air intakes and LED headlights and daytime running lights.
The side’s visible character lines gives it some muscle and while it’s technically a “sedan,” the extended roofline allows for a coupe-like silhouette.
As for the interior, it’s not a big departure over the outgoing model. The Eco button is repositioned near the shift lever and the handbrake replaced by a more advanced e-brake with an automatic brake hold function. However, we’d like to point out how the old display cluster on top of the gauges is now gone. Instead, all the info is now packed within the rev counter’s LCD, within the steering wheel arch where they should be.
Lastly, the biggest news for the latest Civic is the omission of the 1.8L 4-cylinder engine in favor of a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. This engine pushes 174 hp and 219 Nm of torque that’s transmitted through either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
Although Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has yet to announce when the all-new Civic will arrive here, we’re estimating that it could hit local showrooms by mid to late 2016.
